How to Draw a Horse (Cartoon)

Written step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.
Step 1: Draw a small circle near the top of the page for the horse's first eye. To the left of the circle, draw a line that slopes to the left for the top part of the face. Above the line, draw a small half-circle for the other eye.
Step 2: Inside each eyeball, draw a small dot for the pupils. To the left, draw a long, curved line that's similar to the letter C on its side for the cartoon horse's muzzle.
Step 3: Draw two small, curved lines on top of the muzzle for the outer edge of the horse's nostrils. Now add a big dot under the curved line on the right for the actual nostril.
Step 4: Under the muzzle, draw a long, curved line for the mouth. The line should curve upward until it's below the horse's first eye.
Step 5: Draw a couple of shorter curved lines under the mouth for the horse's teeth and lower lip.
Step 6: Draw a wavy line under the mouth for the horse's lower jaw. This line should curve on the left to form the chin and again on the right to form the jaw.
Step 7: To the right of the horse's eyes, draw a thin, pointy arc for the first ear.
Step 8: To the left of the ear, draw a couple of curved horizontal lines for the front part of the cartoon horse's mane. The left end of the mane should have a few spikes for the tips.
Step 9: Draw the tip of the horse's other ear on top of the front part of the mane.
Step 10: Add the rest of the horse's mane by first drawing a V-shaped line between the ear and the jaw. Now starting at the ear, draw a long, curved line that slopes to the right for the top edge of the mane. Add a series of lines toward the jaw that are similar to curved letter V's for the lower tips of the mane.
Step 11: Under the head, draw a curved line similar to a backward letter J for the horse's chest.
Step 12: To the right of the horse's chest, draw two long, parallel vertical lines for the first front leg. Add a bell-like shape at the bottom with a line across it for the hoof.
Step 13: To the right of the leg, draw a curved horizontal line for the underside. To the right of the mane, draw a longer line that curves to the right then downward for the horse's back and rump.
Step 14: To the right of the horse's belly, draw a curved line for the top part of the hind leg. Continue the line on the right and add the vertical lines below for the skinny part of the leg. Add the bell- like hoof at the bottom.
Step 15: To the left of the first front leg, draw the horse's other front leg the same way. Use two vertical lines for the top part of the leg and a bell-like shape at the bottom for the hoof.
Step 16: Draw the final leg to the left of the hind leg. The horse's body is blocking the top part of this hind leg, so only draw the bottom section.
Step 17: On the top, right side of the body, draw a series of curved lines for the horse's tail. Add a couple of curved spikes on the right for the tips of the tail hair. It's best to draw the shape of the tail as a single clump rather than drawing each individual hair strand.
Step 18: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon horse drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your cartoon horse drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use dark brown for the mane, tail and a bit on the middle section of the legs. Use light brown for the rest of the horse's body, except for the muzzle and the bottom part of the legs. Horses have different coats, so you can color yours differently if you'd like. Add some yellow to the muzzle. Use black for the hooves but leave a stripe blank to represent shine.
