Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw two curved lines next to each other for the cartoon fox's eyes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the lines and make them thick. The shape of the curved lines should be similar to a half-circle. Pay attention to the placement of the curved lines. Don't draw them too far apart.

 

Step 2: Under each curved line, draw a small circle for the fox's irises. The circle on the left should be close to the right tip of the line. The circle on the right should be closer to the middle of the curved line.

 

Step 3: Inside each iris, off to the side, draw a tiny circle to represent glare. In the middle of each iris, draw a big dot for the pupils. Don't shade the tiny circles. Add a short line over each eye for the fox's eyebrows.

 

Step 4: Below the eyes, slightly to the left, draw a small triangle for the fox's nose.

 

Step 5: Below the nose, draw a wavy line for the mouth. The shape of the mouth should be similar to the letter w. Now curve the left tip of the mouth up toward the eye to create the rest of the fox's muzzle. Add a couple of short, curved lines under the mouth for the chin.

Step 6: Draw a series of quick, short strokes on the left for the left side of the head. The strokes should start close to the fox's eye, then curve down toward the chin. Draw the other side of the head the same way. Notice how much farther to the right the strokes are. The strokes represent fur. Notice how the sides of the head come to a slight point. Add a few more strokes high above the eyes for the top of the head. Leave big gaps for the ears. Add a few more strokes high above the eyes for the top of the head. Leave big gaps for the ears.

 

Step 7: For the first part of the cartoon fox's ear, draw a curved line coming off the top of the head. Now add another curved line that connects to the side of the head to form the ear's triangle-like shape. Add another line inside for structure and a series of quick, short strokes for the fur.

 

Step 8: Draw the ear on the left side the same way. The ear should have a triangle- like shape. Notice how big the fox's ears are in relation to the head. Add a line inside, on the right, for structure and quick, short strokes to represent fur.

 

Step 9: Draw a series of quick, short strokes under the head for the fox's furry chest. The overall shape of the chest should be similar to a half-circle.

 

Step 10: Under the chest, near the right, draw two short, vertical lines for the top part of the fox's first leg. Now add a curved line for the bottom of the foot and draw the toes as short lines inside.

Step 11: Draw the other front leg the same way. Don't forget the fox's toes at the bottom!

 

Step 12: Draw a short horizontal line to the right of the front legs for the bottom of the cartoon fox's torso. Draw a curved line on the right side of the head for the back portion of the body.

 

Step 13: Draw the hind leg by first drawing two diagonal lines on the lower right side of the body. Then add a curved line at the bottom for the foot and a couple of small lines at the tip for the fox's toes.

 

Step 14: To the left, draw the visible portion of the fox's other hind leg the same way.

 

Step 15: Draw the cartoon fox's tail on the right side by first drawing two long curved lines. The tail should be big and fluffy, so draw these two lines far apart. Now draw a series of quick, short strokes at the top for the tip of the tail.

Step 16: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon fox drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your cartoon fox drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use black for the ears' edges. Use yellow-orange to draw the lower edges of the eyes and the color separation inside the head. Color the fox's body orange except for the ears, the lower part of the head, the chest, the feet and the tip of the tail. Use dark brown to color the bottom half of the legs and feet. To get a gradient effect on the eyes, color the top part dark blue and the bottom part light blue.
