To draw this cartoon Poodle step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.
Written step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.
Step 1: Lightly sketch two small ovals for the poodle's eyes. Pay attention to the distance between the eyes. Don't place them too close together. When you get the position and shapes of the eyes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw a couple of tiny circles for highlights. Shade the cartoon dog's eyes but don't overlap the tiny highlight circles. The eye on the left should be slightly smaller because of the way the head will be turned.
Step 2: Below the eye on the left, draw another small oval for the dog's nose. The oval for the nose should be slightly bigger than the ovals for the eyes, and it should be turned on its side. Inside the nose, near the top, draw a thinner oval for a highlight. Shade the poodle's nose but don't overlap the thin highlight oval.
Step 3: To the left of the eyes, draw a short, vertical line for the side of the poodle's head. To the left of the nose, draw a curved, C-shaped line for the cheek. Extend the bottom line toward the right to create the bottom edge of the dog's head.
Step 4: Above the eyes, draw three curved, horizontal lines for the bottom edge of the fluffy fur on the head. Extend these curved lines farther to the right than the bottom edge of the cartoon poodle's head.
Step 5: To the right of the face, draw a tall shape that's made up of curved lines for the fluffy ear. First draw a few short, curved, vertical lines for the sides of the poodle's ear. Then close off the shape of the ear at the bottom using a curved, horizontal line.
