Written step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.
Step 1: Draw two small ovals for the cartoon corgi's eyes. Space out the eyes. Don't set them too close together. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw a couple of tiny circles to represent highlight. Shade in the corgi's eyes but don't overlap the tiny circles inside. The eye on the right should be a tiny bit smaller than the eye on the left.
Step 2: Below the eye on the right, draw an oval on its side for the cartoon corgi's nose. Inside the nose, draw a smaller oval for shine. Shade the nose except for the smaller shine oval. The dog's nose should be just a little bit bigger than the eyes.
Step 3: Starting near the eye on the right, draw a curved line for the corgi dog's muzzle. The line should curve around the nose and under it. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right.
Step 4: On the right side, draw a line that curves up and to the left for the front part of the head. Pay attention to hose tall this line is. Don't make the corgi's head too short. At the top of the line, draw three small, spiky shapes for a bit of fur on the head.
Step 5: On the top, left side of the head, draw a big arc for the cartoon corgi dog's first ear. Notice how big the arc is in relation to the head. Make the top of the ear a bit pointy. Draw a curved line inside the ear for structure. At the bottom add a couple of short spikes for fur.
