Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw a short diagonal line for the first eyebrow. The line angles a bit on the left side. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. Now draw another short, diagonal line facing the opposite direction for the growling bear's second eyebrow. Add a few short lines to emphasize the furrowed brow. Don't place the lines too far apart.

 

Step 2: Add a thin diamond-like shape under each eyebrow for the eyes. You can add pupils inside the bear's eyes if you'd like, or just leave them blank for a more ferocious look.

 

Step 3: Below the eyes, near the right side, draw a curved horizontal line for the top part of the bear's nose. Curve the ends of the line inward and add a dot on each side for the nostrils. The bottom part of the nose should come to a point. Add a short vertical line in the middle.

 

Step 4: Draw a short, curved vertical line to the right of the nose for the first part of the muzzle. Now extend this line toward the left to create the top part of the bear's open mouth. Add a curved, diagonal line on the left side as a wrinkle on the bear's muzzle.

 

Step 5: Under the snarling bear's mouth, on either side, draw a long V-shaped line for the canine teeth. Between the canine teeth, draw four shorter V- shaped lines for the front teeth.

Step 6: Draw a long line underneath that's similar to a wide letter U for the shape of the open mouth. Pay attention to the size and position of the mouth relative to the top part of the muzzle. Inside the mouth, at the bottom, draw a curved line for the bottom lip and a few smaller lines for the gums.

 

Step 7: Near the bottom of the mouth, on either side, draw two long triangle- like shapes for the growling bear's lower canines. Between the canines, draw three shorter triangle- like shapes for the bottom row of teeth.

 

Step 8: Between the top and bottom rows of teeth, draw the tongue using a series of curved lines. You can skip this step if you don't have enough room between the teeth for the tongue.

 

Step 9: Starting next to the eye on the right, draw a long curved line that's made up of short strokes for the right side of the bear's head. The quick, short strokes represent fur. The bottom end of the side of the head should end next to the mouth.

Draw another curved line that's made up of jagged strokes on the left side for the other half of the head. The left side of the bear's head should be wider than the right side because of the perspective. Draw two short, curved horizontal lines above the eyes for the top of the head. Leave gaps on the sides for the ears.

 

Step 10: On the top, left side of the growling bear's head, draw a small, C-shaped line for the first ear. Add a few quick, short strokes within the shape of the ear for the fur. Add a similar shape, only smaller, on the top right side of the head for the other ear.

Step 11: On the left side of the head, draw a long, curved vertical line for the first part of the front leg. Add another curved line on the left for the other side of the leg. Pay attention to the space between the lines. Now draw the bottom part of the bear's leg using jagged lines on the left and a smooth curved line on the right.

 

Step 12: Draw a short horizontal line at the bottom for the first part of the foot. Add a curved line at the top for the top part of the foot. At the bottom of the foot, on the right side, draw three triangle- like shapes for the bear's claws. Add a curved line between each claw to separate the toes.

 

Step 13: Draw a series of quick, short strokes from the front leg to the bottom of the head for the first part of the growling bear's body. Add a vertical line that's made up of short strokes to the left of the front leg.

 

Step 14: Starting at the top of the head, draw a series of jagged strokes for the top part of the bear's body. The overall shape of the back should curve, and the end result should be similar to a little hill. Now extend the line to the left and then downward for the rump. Add a few extra strokes along the back to emphasize the fur standing up.

 

Step 15: Draw the bear's second front leg under the body the same way as the first. Draw a couple of short vertical lines for the top, then curve the shape of the foot to the left. Add three triangle- like shapes at the bottom for the claws and a couple of curved lines for the toes.

Step 16: On the left side, draw a couple of curved lines for the top part of the hind leg. Add the foot using a series of curved lines so that the result is similar to the front foot. Add the three claws and toes. The bear's claws are round at the top and come to a point at the bottom.

 

Step 17: Add the tip of the other hind foot. Most of it will be hidden behind the bear's front leg and body.

 

Step 18: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your growling bear drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your bear drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Lightly add a base of dark brown, then add regular brown and light brown on top for more vibrant fur. You can also just use a single shade of brown throughout the bear's body for an easier drawing. Use black for the nose and bottom lip. Leave a strip at the top of the nose blank for shine.
