Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw a short, sloping line for the T. rex's eyebrow. Curve the left tip down and the right tip up to emphasize the furrowed brow. Add another sloping line above for the thick, bony brow.

 

Step 2: Under the eyebrow, draw a small diamond-like shape for the dinosaur's eye. Add a curved line under the eye for the wrinkly skin.

 

Step 3: Draw another sloping line to the right for the brow on the other side of the head. The eye on the other side of the head won't be visible, only the thick, bony brow. To the right of the brow, draw a line that curves downward for the top part of the T. rex's muzzle.

 

Step 4: Now draw a line that stretches toward the left for the top edge of the T. rex's open mouth. Make the line a bit wavy. It should extend farther to the left than the eye. Draw a small slit on the top, right side for the nostril.

 

Step 5: Draw a series of short V-shaped lines along the mouth for the teeth. The T. rex's row of teeth shouldn't start on the very left of the mouth. They should start near the middle.

Step 6: Draw a long curved line below for the bottom edge of the dinosaur's open mouth. The shape of this line should be similar to a wavy, tilted letter V.

 

Step 7: Now draw a series of short, triangle like shapes along the line for the bottom row of teeth. You can make the teeth on your Tyrannosaurus rex drawing bigger if you'd like.

 

Step 8: Draw a couple of curved lines between the teeth for the T. rex's tongue. You can skip this step if you don't have enough room between the teeth.

 

Step 9: Under the mouth, draw a long line that curves to the left for the jaw. The line should curve up toward the mouth to emphasize the dinosaur's jaw muscles.

 

Step 10: To the left of the T. rex's eye, draw a curved line for the back of the head and top edge of the neck. Remember to sketch lightly at first, and when you get the shape right, darken the lines. Under the mouth, draw a wavy line that slopes to the left for the bottom edge of the neck.

Step 11: At the bottom, draw a couple of short curved lines similar to parenthesis for the T. rex's short arm. At the end of the arm, draw a W- shaped line for the small digits and claws.

 

Step 12: On the right, draw the arm on the other side the same way but make it a bit smaller.

 

Step 13: At the top, draw a long curved horizontal line for the Tyrannosaurus rex's back. Draw a shorter curved horizontal line at the bottom, to the left of the arms, for the belly.

 

Step 14: Inside the dinosaur's body, draw two long, curved lines that slope to the right for the top part of the first leg. Now add two more lines that are closer together and slope to the left for the middle part of the leg.

 

Step 15: Draw two short vertical lines under the leg for the top part of the foot. Draw the T. rex's toes at the bottom. The toes are similar in shape to a greater-than sign (>). The third toe should barely be visible because it's on the other side.

Step 16: Draw the other hind leg the same way. The top part won't be visible because it's behind the body. The T. rex's leg should be thick at the top and gradually thinner at the bottom. Only two toes should be visible from this angle.

 

Step 17: Continue drawing the line for the back toward the left to create the top edge of the tail. Add another line below for the bottom edge of the tail. The tail should come to a point on the left. Pay attention to how long the tail is in relation to the rest of the dinosaur's body.

 

Step 18: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your Tyrannosaurus rex drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your Tyrannosaurus rex drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use brown for a light base on the body. Now add green over the brown. You can use a single color all over the body for a simpler drawing. Add more light brown and blend the colors together. You can color your dinosaur drawing any way you'd like. Use dark red or brown for the inside of the mouth, pink for the tongue and yellow for the eye. You can also add random stripes all over the body using dark brown. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
