To draw this cartoon Sloth step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

 

Step 1: Lightly sketch two small ovals for the cartoon sloth's eyes. Draw them vertically, not next to each other. When you get the position and shapes right, darken the lines. Shade the sloth's eyes except for two tiny circles that represent glare or highlight.

 

Step 2: To the left of the eyes, draw a bigger oval for the nose. Shade the nose except for an oval inside for highlight. The sloth will be hanging, so the face will be sideways.

Step 3: Above the eye at the top, draw a line that curves toward the right for the top of the cartoon sloth's head. Sketch lightly at first, and when you get the shape of the head right, darken the line. Draw another curved line to the left of the nose for the cheek and bottom of the head.

 

Step 4: Continue to draw the line on the right. Curve it down and to the left for the rest of the sloth's head.

 

 

Step 5: Draw a curved line to the right of the eyes for the cartoon sloth's face. The markings to the right of the eyes should be similar to the number three. Curve the line to the left so that it meets the bottom of the head.

Step 6: Draw a small arc around each eye for the sloth's face marks. The arc around the eye at the top should be smaller than the one at the bottom.

 

Step 7: Draw a big arc to the left of the head for the cartoon sloth's first arm. The top of this arc should be higher than the side of the head.

Step 8: Draw a second tall arc on the left side for the sloth's first hind leg.

 

Step 9: Draw a short line between the legs for the sloth's belly. Draw three spikes at the top of each arc for the claws on the arm and leg.

 

 

Step 10: Draw a long, curved line from the back of the head to the hind leg for the rest of the cartoon sloth's body.

Step 11: Draw two long lines above the body to give the sloth a branch to hang on to. Don't overlap the shape of the arm or leg as you draw the branch. It's okay if the lines aren't perfectly straight because branches can be curved.

 

Step 12: To the right of the first arm, draw two lines for the other arm. At the top, draw three spikes for the sloth's claws.

Step 13: Draw two short lines in the middle for the cartoon sloth's other hind leg and add three spikes at the top for the claws.

 

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon sloth drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your cartoon sloth drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Color the body dark gray, the markings around the eyes dark brown and the face light gray. Use brown for the branch. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
