To draw this cartoon Seal step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw two small circles for the cartoon harp seal's eyes. Inside each eye, draw a couple of tiny circles to represent highlight. Shade the eyes but don't overlap the tiny glare circles. Don't draw the eyes too close together. The seal's eye on the right should be a bit smaller than the one on the left.

Step 2: Below the eye on the right, draw a small oval on its side for the harp seal's nose. Inside the nose, near the top, draw another oval to represent highlight. Shade the nose but don't overlap the small oval inside.

Step 3: To the right of the nose, draw a small, curved line for the cheek. This line should start near the eye on the right and end below the nose. High above the eye on the left, make a small mark to indicate the top of the harp seal's head. Connect the mark to the cheek using a curved line to create the front of the head. Far off to the left of the eyes, make a small mark then connect the mark to the top to complete the head. Take your time when drawing the seal's head. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shape right.

Step 4: Below the cheek, draw a long line that curves to the left for the front part of the harp seal's body.

Step 5: At the bottom, draw a shorter line that curves to the left for the bottom of the harp seal's first flipper. Add two curved lines at the top to complete the shape of the flipper. Draw two short lines inside for the seal's toes.

Step 6: To the right of the body, draw a shape that curves to the right for the harp seal's flipper on the other side.

Step 7: To the left of the head, draw two, long, curved lines that slope downward for the top of the harp seal's body. To the left of the flipper, draw a short, horizontal line for the bottom of the body.

Step 8: On the lower, left side, draw a small, curved shape for the hind flipper. The top of this shape should have two bumps. Draw two short, curved lines inside for the toes.

Step 9: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your harp seal drawing permanent. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your cartoon harp seal drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use a bit of light blue for shadows. You can skip this step if you don't want shadows. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
