To draw this Yeti or Abominable Snowman step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

The Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw a circle near the top of the page as a guide for the abominable snowman or yeti's head. To draw the circle, first make four marks to determine its height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a lid. Step 2: Draw a long, curved, horizontal line across the circle as a guide to help you place the abominable snowman's facial features later. Add a curved, vertical line on the top, left for another guide.

Step 3: Below the head, draw a big, oval-like shape as a guide for the abominable snowman's chest using the four-marks method. Make some marks to determine the width and height of the circle. The top mark will be hidden behind the head. Connect the marks using curved lines. The bigger this shape is, the bigger the yeti will be.

Step 4: Below the oval, draw two vertical lines on the sides as the guide for the yeti's lower torso. At the bottom, draw a V-shaped line to close off the shape of the guide.

Step 5: To the right of the torso, draw a small arc as the guide for the abominable snowman's hand. Draw a line at the bottom to create a half-circle shape as the guide for the hand. Below the half-circle, draw an arc similar to the letter U as a guide for the forearm. At the top, draw a couple of short, curved lines as guides for the rest of the arm.

Step 6: On the top, left side of the torso, draw a couple of lines as a guide for the top part of the other arm. Add a line at the bottom to close off the shape. Then add another rectangular shape below it for the rest of the yeti's arm. Inside the shape, at the bottom, draw a small arc as a guide for the other hand.

Step 7: On the lower, right side of the torso, draw a big, U-shaped arc as a guide for the top of the leg. Below that, draw two long, vertical lines as a guide for the lower part of the leg. At the bottom, draw a small oval as a guide for the abominable snowman's foot.

Step 8: To the left, draw another U-shaped line as a guide for the top of the other leg. Tilt this shape a bit. Below that, draw two vertical lines that are farther apart at the bottom for the rest of the yeti's leg. At the very bottom, draw a thin, long shape as a guide for the other foot.

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

Step 9: Inside the head, lightly sketch two small ovals for the eyes. Use the initial lines as guide for placement. Above each eye, draw a line that slopes toward the middle for the eyebrows. Curve the lines upward in the middle to furrow the yeti's brow. Darken the eye shapes but make them a bit more angular than the initial ovals. The eye on the right should be a tiny bit bigger than the eye on the left because of perspective.

Step 10: Draw a curved line over each eye to make the abominable snowman's brows thick. These curved lines should be made up of smaller angled lines to represent fur.

Step 11: Below the eyes, in the middle, draw two short, curved lines for the yeti's nose. Between these lines, draw two more small lines for the nostrils. Add a line below the nose too.

Step 12: Below the nose, draw a long, wavy line for the open mouth. The line should almost reach the bottom of the circle. Pay attention to the curves of the line. You can make the abominable snowman's mouth bigger if you'd like.

Step 13: Draw two triangular shapes on the outer edges of the top of the mouth for the yeti's canine teeth. Between the canines, draw three smaller triangles for the rest of the top teeth. Do the same thing at the bottom. First draw two big triangular shapes on the sides for canines. Then between the canines, draw three smaller triangles for the rest of the teeth.

Step 14: Draw a couple of lines on the sides to finish the mouth. Inside, draw some curved lines for the yeti's tongue.

Step 15: Draw a few lines close to the face to define the shape of the abominable snowman's head. Draw an angled line on the left side for the cheekbone and a couple of curved lines under the mouth for the lip. Draw a series of short strokes close to the face for the inner edge of the fur on the head. Draw short strokes along the left edge of the initial circle to start drawing the outer shape of the yeti's head. For the bottom, draw the strokes lower than the edge of the initial circle for a shaggier look. Darken the top edge of the initial circle but make the shape a bit pointier. Use strokes on the right side.

Step 16: Draw the abominable snowman's fingers along the bottom edge of the initial half circle shape on the right. The fingers are basically thin, long shapes with a pointy tip at the end for the claws. Make the edges of the finger shapes wavy to indicate the joints. The fingers are facing forward and then curving down. The base of the yeti's fingers is barely visible from this angle.

The fingers farther to the right curve more to the right and then downward. The yeti's pinky finger should be the smallest and should be partly hidden behind the ring finger. On the left side, draw the thumb as a smaller thin shape with a pointy tip. Darken the top part of the guide for the abominable snowman's hand. Add some jagged lines between the fingers for fur.

Step 17: Use the shapes around the hand as guides to draw the abominable snowman's arm. Follow the edges of the guides and draw a series of short strokes along the path for the fur. Use longer strokes along the bottom for the shaggier, loose fur found there.

Step 18: Draw a series of long strokes along the bottom edge of the torso oval to shape the abominable snowman's chest. Darken the sides of the initial guide lines using short strokes to finish the shape of the torso.

Step 19: Draw a thin shape that curves downward on the right side of the half-circle on the left for the yeti's other thumb. Curve the edges of the shape to create the joints and make the tip pointy for the claw. To the left, along the bottom edge of the guide, draw a slightly longer thin shape for the yeti's index finger. To the left, continue drawing similar shapes for the rest of the fingers but make them smaller the farther left they are. The pinky finger on the left should be almost entirely hidden behind the other fingers.

Step 20: Use the shapes above the hand as guides to draw the rest of the abominable snowman's arm. Draw a series of short strokes along the edges of the guides to create the shape of the arm. Use longer strokes along the bottom for the loose fur. Don't overlap the fingers, though.

Step 21: Use the shapes on the lower, right side as guides to draw the abominable snowman's first leg. Like with the arms, draw a series of short strokes along the outer edges of the guides for the fur on the leg. Draw longer strokes along the bottom of the guide where the leg meets the foot. Draw a few short, curved lines along the bottom edge of the lower guide to separate the shapes of the yeti's toes.

Step 22: Use the shapes on the left as a guide to draw the abominable snowman's other leg the same way. Draw short strokes along the edges of the guides for the fur. Make the strokes along the bottom longer. Darken the shape at the bottom bout make the lower edge wavier. Use short, curved lines on the left side for the toes.

Step 23: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.

Final Step: Color your drawing! Use blue for the face, hands and feet. Yetis are fictional, so you can color yours however you want. Color lightly at first and slowly build up the level of darkness. Use dark blue for the area around the eyes and the claws. Use red for the eyes, dark brown and gray for the inside of the mouth and pink for the tongue.

Use gray to create shadows all over the abominable snowman's body and give the figure more dimension and volume. Pick the direction of the light source when shading so that the shadows are consistent with it. Add the shadows by using a series of strokes to emulate the fur. Add some light blue to the entire body to make the white fur cooler. Add a cast shadow underneath the abominable snowman using gray and blue. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
