To draw this cartoon Puppy step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw two small ovals for the Christmas puppy's eyes. Sketch lightly at first to get the shapes right. Inside each eye, draw a couple of tiny circles to represent highlight. Shade the eyes but don't overlap the tiny glare circles. Don't draw the puppy's eyes too close together. Make them equal size.

Step 2: Between the eyes, at the bottom, draw a sideways oval for the puppy's nose. Draw a smaller oval inside for highlight. Shade the nose except for the glare oval.

Step 3: Far down below the puppy dog's nose, draw a curved line for the smiling mouth. Draw this curved line using a series of short strokes to represent fur. Under the mouth, draw a small U-shaped line for the Christmas puppy's tongue. Below that, draw a longer line for the chin.

Step 4: To the left of the puppy's eyes, draw a short, vertical line for the side of the head. Below that, draw a curved line that's made up of smaller angled lines for the dog's cheek.

Step 5: On the right side, draw a similar shape, only inverted, for the other side of the puppy dog's head. Make both sides as equal to each other as you can. Don't connect the bottom lines to the chin.

Step 6: Above the left side, draw a curved line made up of jagged points for the Christmas puppy's ear. The dog's ear should be similar to a tilted letter U with spikes at the bottom. Draw curved lines at the top for folds.

Step 7: Draw a series of short, spike-like lines from the ear to the right side for the bottom edge of the Christmas puppy's Santa hat. Above the ear, continue drawing the short strokes sloping toward the right for the top edge of the fluffy lining. You can make the hat's lining as wide as you want. Don't close off the shape on the right side.

Step 8: To the right of the puppy's head, draw a small circle that's made up of short strokes for the Santa hat's fluffy pom pom. On top of the pom pom, draw two curved, vertical lines for the tip of the hat that's folded over. At the top, draw a long, curved, horizontal line to close off the shape of the puppy dog's hat.

Step 9: Below the head, draw a series of short strokes and spiky lines for the Christmas puppy's fluffy chest. The shorts strokes should form an overall curved shape similar to a half-circle.

Step 10: Below the chest, on the left, draw a U-shaped line for the puppy's leg. At the bottom, add two lines for toes.

Step 11: To the right, draw a similar shape for the puppy dog's other front leg. Don't forget the toes at the bottom!

Step 12: On the bottom, left side, draw a small half circle for the puppy's hind foot. Draw two lines inside for toes. Draw a long, curved line from the head to this toe for the left side of the body.

Step 13: Draw another half circle with lines inside on the right side for the other hind foot. Draw a long, curved line from the head to the foot to complete the shape of the Christmas puppy's body.

Step 14: On the lower, right, side draw a thick, fluffy shape using short strokes for the puppy dog's small tail.

Step 15: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your Christmas puppy drawing permanent. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your cartoon Christmas puppy drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use red for the main part of the Santa hat. Outline a pattern around the face and paws using brown and then color the inside. You can color your Christmas puppy differently if you'd like. Use light brown for the rest of the body. Use pink for the tongue. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
