The Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw a circle near the top of the paper as a guide for the Eurasian blue tit's head. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a lid. Step 2: Inside the head, draw two intersecting lines as guides to help you place the blue tit's facial features later. The circle should be divided into four equal parts. The end result will be similar to a scope.

Step 3: On the left side, draw a small angled line that's similar to a less-than sign (<) as a guide for the blue tit's beak.

Step 4: Under the bird's head, off to the right, draw a bigger circle as a guide for the body. Use the four-marks method to draw this circle too. The top part of the circle will be behind the head. This circle should be about twice the size of the head. The left edges of the circles should almost be parallel. Don't place this circle too close to the head, otherwise the Eurasian blue tit's body will be too short.

Step 5: Draw two lines that connect the head to the body as a guide for the bird's neck. On the bottom, right side of the big circle, make a small mark for the first part of the lower half of the blue tit's body. Connect the mark to the circle using curved lines to create an arc as a guide for the rest of the body.

Step 6: On the lower, right side of the body, draw two long lines as a guide for the blue tit's tail. The lines should slope down to the right. Close off the shape at the end using a smaller line.

Step 7: Under the blue tit's body, draw a long line that slopes to the left as a guide for the first foot. On the right side, near the middle, draw a shorter line that curves the opposite way as a guide for the toe. To the left, draw a similar but smaller line as a guide for the bird's other foot.

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

Step 8: Inside the Eurasian blue tit's head, lightly sketch a small circle for the eye. Use the initial lines as guides for placement. When you get the size and position of the eye right, darken the lines. Draw a curved line above and below the eye for the bird's eyelids. Inside the eye, off to the side, draw a tiny circle for a highlight. In the middle, draw a big dot for the pupil.

Step 9: Darken the small, angled line on the left edge of the head for the blue tit's beak. Draw a wavy line across the shape for the beak opening. Draw a series of short strokes along the right side of the shape for the beak's feathery base.

Step 10: Darken the initial circle using a series of short strokes for the feathery shape of the bird's head. At the top, curve the shape higher than the circle to create a short crest. Don't curve the shape too much or the blue tit's crest will be too big. Keep it short. Use short strokes to darken the path of the initial lines on the sides for the fluffy neck.

Step 11: Use short strokes to draw the feathery pattern across the Eurasian blue tit's head. The first part of the pattern consists of two lines across the eye for the stripe on the bird's head. Below that, draw a curved line that meets up with the stripe on the right end.

Step 12: Lightly sketch a long line across the body that slopes down to the tail for the blue tit's folded wing. When you get the position of the wing right, darken the line. Curve the bottom tip a bit. At the top, draw a few short strokes for some of the bird's fluffy feathers.

Step 13: Draw a few more short strokes across the shape of the wing for more detail on the bird's feathers. Add some short, U-shaped lines in the middle for more feathers. Draw a few longer lines toward the bottom for longer feathers.

Step 14: Draw a few short strokes along the top part of the foot on the right for the feathery base. Draw the shape of the foot around the guide line. At the bottom, draw the claw as a curved, pointy tip. Use the short line on the right as a guide to draw the toe pointing back. Give it a claw too. Use wavy lines to draw the shape of the blue tit's foot. Add another toe on the left. Not all of the bird's toes will be visible from this angle.

Step 15: Draw the shape of the blue tit's other foot around the guide on the left. Don't overlap the first foot. Use wavy lines to draw the toes and draw a curved, pointy shape at the bottom of the toes for the claws.

Step 16: Darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the Eurasian blue tit's body. Use short strokes as you follow the path of the guide at the bottom for the fluffy underside of the body. Near the lower section of the top edge, draw a couple of curved lines for the other folded wing.

Step 17: Draw a few more short strokes on the underside for the fluffy base of the tail. Darken the shape on the lower, right side to create the blue tit's tail. Make the shape curvier at the tip and add a few lines inside for feathers.

Step 18: Draw a stick or a rock under the feet to give the bird something to stand on so it doesn't appear to be floating. For a stick like this, draw a couple of lines across the bottom but don't overlap the shape of the blue tit's feet. On the right side, draw a series of jagged lines to give the stick a broken appearance.

Step 19: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.

Final Step: Color your Eurasian blue tit drawing! Use dark blue with a bit of black for the pattern on the head. Use light blue for the top of the bird's head, the wings and even a bit on the legs. Use different shades of blue on these sections and blend them together. Color lightly first and slowly build up the color. Use brown for the eye.

Color the back yellow-green with a bit of light brown. Use yellow for the chest and underside of the body. Add a bit of light brown under the wing and gray on the underside for shadows. Use a bit of gray on the white patches on the head. Lightly color the beak and legs black. Leave a strip on the beak blank for shine. Add some black stripes on the bird's legs for detail. Use a blend of light brown, dark brown, gray and a bit of yellow to color the stick. It's a good idea to use reference as you draw for a more accurate depiction of a blue tit bird. Don't forget to pause the video to draw and color at your own pace.
