To draw this Dragon step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

The Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw a circle near the right side of the paper as a guide for the front part of the water dragon's body. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a lid. Step 2: To the left, draw another circle as a guide for the back of the water dragon's body. Use the four-marks method to draw this circle too. This circle should be slightly bigger than the first circle. The farther apart you draw them, the longer the dragon's body will be.

Step 3: Above the first circle, off to the right, draw a smaller circle as a guide for the head. This circle should be about half the size of the first one. The higher up you draw it, the longer the water dragon's neck will be.

Step 4: On the top, left side of the head, draw a tall, sideways arc for the water dragon's top jaw. Below that, draw a similar arc for the lower part of the open jaw. The farther apart you draw the arcs, the wider the open mouth will be.

Step 5: Connect the head to the first circle using two curved lines to create the guide for the water dragon's neck. The line on the right should be longer than the line on the left. It should connect to the bottom of the first circle. Connect the first two circles using a couple of curved lines to finish the guide for the water dragon's torso.

Step 6: Draw a small circle directly on the lower edge of the first circle as a guide for the first hand. Pay attention to the size of this circle in relation to the water dragon's body. Draw two curved lines above the circle for the rest of the arm. Draw another small circle on the lower, right side of the body as a guide for the other hand. Above the circle, draw two curved lines that connect to the body and form the guide for the rest of the arm.

Step 7: Draw a big U-shaped line on the bottom half of the circle on the left as a guide for the first hind leg. Make this line big. At the bottom, draw two short lines for the angled, middle part of the leg. At the bottom, off to the side, draw a big triangle for the big, webbed foot. To the right, under the body, draw a smaller U-shaped line for the top of the other hind leg. At the bottom, draw a big, blocky, rectangular shape for the water dragon's other hind foot.

Step 8: For the water dragon's tail, draw a curved line off the top of the left circle. You can make the line longer if you'd like. The longer the line is, the longer the dragon's tail will be. Draw a shorter, curved line on the inside to make the tail thicker. The two lines should end at a point.

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

Step 9: Draw a curved line on the top, left side of the head for the water dragon's eyebrow. The line should be similar to a check mark. Sketch lightly at first. Darken the line when you get the shape right. Draw a small diamond under the line for the eye. Above the eye, draw a curved, angled line for the dragon's thick, bony brow.

Step 10: Darken the initial top arc but make the left end pointy to create a beak-like tip. When you darken the bottom edge, add three small, triangular lines on the right side for the water dragon's teeth. On the right most side of the top jaw, draw an extra-long, curved, spike-like shape for armor.

Step 11: Use the arc on the bottom as a guide to draw the water dragon's lower jaw the same way. Darken the top edge of the arc but on the left side, draw a few small, triangular shapes for teeth. Darken the bottom edge of the arc but extend the right side into the head and curve the line up for the strong jaw.

Step 12: Draw a few lines inside the mouth for the other side of the water dragon's jaw, the tongue and a few more teeth.

Step 13: Draw three thin, long, spike-like shapes along the initial circle's right edge for the ear. Sketch the lines lightly at first to get their shapes right. You can make them as long or as short as you want. The top and bottom spikes should slope toward the middle of the water dragon's head. The middle spike should be straight. Draw a couple of curved lines between the spikes to form some webbing.

Step 14: On the top, right side of the head, draw two curved lines that come to a point for the water dragon's first horn. You can make the horn longer if you'd like. The bottom edge of the horn will be hidden behind the ear.

Step 15: Above the eye, draw a curved, angled line for the thick brow on the other side of the water dragon's head. Above that, draw a long, curved line for the other horn. Make this horn have the same shape as the first. The bottom of this horn will be hidden behind the first horn. Inside the muzzle, draw a small slit for the nostril.

Step 16: Use the small circle under the body as a guide to draw the water dragon's first hand. Along the circle's left edge, draw a thin, wavy shape with a pointy tip at the bottom for the first finger. To the right, draw a slightly bigger circle the same way. Make the sides wavy for the joints. Draw two more fingers the same way along the curvature of the initial circle. Make them smaller toward the right.

At the top, draw a similar shape, only this time the tip should point to the right for the thumb. Draw short, curved lines between the water dragon's fingers for webbing. Darken the initial guides for the arms. Add a few more lines inside to give the dragon's arm more structure.

Step 17: Use the small circle on the right as a guide to draw the water dragon's other hand the same way. Along the right edge of the circle, draw a thin, wavy shape with a pointy tip at the bottom for the thumb. To the right, draw a similar shape, only this time curve it to the left for the first finger. Add one more finger to the right. The hand is turned, so not all the fingers are visible from this angle. Draw a curved line between the digits for webbing. Add the tip of another finger under the webbing. Darken the initial lines at the top but make them more angular to give the arm a better shape.

Step 18: Use the big, U-shaped line on the left as a guide to draw the top part of the first leg. Darken the outer edges of the guide and make the bottom pointy. Darken the line in the middle so that the shape of the water dragon's leg angles backward. Along the bottom of the initial triangle, draw a series of thin shapes with pointy tips for the toes. Space out the shapes. Make them thin and wavy at the joints. Darken the sides of the triangle for the water dragon's foot. Add short, curved lines between the toes for webbing.

Step 19: Darken the outer edges of the guides to the left to create the water dragon's other hind foot. Curve the lines more. At the bottom, draw a thin, long, curved shape with a pointy tip for the first toe. To the right, draw a pointy shape for another toe. Curve the toe downward. Add one more pointy toe to the right and darken the rest of the guide to finish the shape of the dragon's foot. Make the lines for the foot wavier and add curved lines between the toes for webbing.

Step 20: Draw a series of curved, triangular shapes along the water dragon's back for spikes. Make the spikes bigger at the top and smaller along the sides. Dragons are fictional, so feel free to draw your spikes as big or as small as you'd like. Make the spikes thinner and smaller as you draw them farther down along the tail. Near the bottom, draw the spikes across the shape of the tail so that they end up on the other edge. Continue to draw the spikes along the top edge of the dragon's tail.

Step 21: Use the initial lines and shapes as guides to draw the rest of the water dragon's body. Add a few extra lines under the head to emphasize the twist of the neck. Darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the dragon's body. As you darken the lines, don't overlap the appendages that are on this side of the body.

Step 22: At the tip of the tail, draw a long, curved, spike-like shape for the top part of the tail's fin. The shape is basically made up of two curved lines that come to a point at the top. Add a smaller fin at the bottom so that the is similar to a crescent moon. Draw a series of long, curved lines along the underside of the water dragon's body for the edge of the bottom scales. Follow the curvature of the body as you draw these lines. Don't overlap the appendages.

Step 23: Draw a series of short, curved lines along the underside of the water dragon's body for the armored scales. The lines under the head should be horizontal, then gradually turn vertical under the body. Draw a series of different-sized circles around the body for the underwater bubbles. Keep the bubbles clustered together in small groups. Draw as many as you'd like!

Step 24: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.

Final Step: Dragons are fictional, so color your drawing however you want! For this look, use blue-green for the main part of the body to imitate the color of water. For now, leave the underside of the body, including the jaw, blank. Use light blue-green or just plain light blue for the underside of the water dragon's body and the webbing.

Color the horns, the spikes on the back and the tail fin dark blue-green. Use dark red for the inside of the dragon's mouth and pink for the tongue. Add a bit of light blue to the bubbles. Use a bit of dark blue-green throughout the body as shadows to give the figure more dimension and volume. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. If you'd like, you can add some spots on the back using dark blue-green.
