Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw a curved line similar to the letter C on its side for the cartoon gorilla's nose. Add two big dots inside the nose for the nostrils.

 

Step 2: For the top lip, draw a long line to the left of the nose. Curve it down, and then up slightly. Add a shorter line to the right of the gorilla's nose for the top of the muzzle.

 

Step 3: Right on top of the muzzle, draw two short arcs for the gorilla's eyes. The eye on the right should overlap the eye on the left.

 

Step 4: Draw a long horizontal line across both eyes for the eyelids. Inside the eyes, draw two small dots for the pupils. Draw them right below the eyelids to give the cartoon gorilla a goofy look.

 

Step 5: Draw a long curved line above the gorilla's eyes for the heavy brow. This line should start to the left of the eyes, go around the eyes and end on the right side of the muzzle.

Step 6: Extend the line at the bottom so that it forms a circular shape and creates a goofy open mouth. Add two curved lines inside for the gorilla's tongue and shade the top part of the open mouth.

 

Step 7: Draw a curved line under the mouth for the bottom lip. Add a long, curved vertical line above the gorilla's mouth to emphasize the length of the top lip.

 

Step 8: To the right of the muzzle, draw a series of jagged lines for the fur on the gorilla's face. Draw a few more jagged lines farther right and add a short, curved line for the ear.

 

Step 9: Draw a series of short strokes above the brow for the head. The top of the gorilla's head should be made up of short lines sticking up to form sort of a tip.

 

Step 10: Draw a long curved line to the right of the face for the shoulder. Make the top part jagged for the fur. Draw a long line below for the top part of the gorilla's arm. Add a shorter line farther to the right for the upper arm's other edge.

Step 11: Below that, draw another long vertical line for the first part of the forearm. Use a series of quick, short strokes across the bottom for the fur's edge on the wrist. Use quick, short strokes to draw the other side side of the gorilla's furry forearm.

 

Step 12: Draw a wavy line under the wrist for the gorilla's knuckles. Add a short, curved line to the right for the folded finger peeking from behind.

 

Step 13: Draw three short lines under the head for the chest. Add a smaller line to the right of the arm for the cartoon gorilla's big belly.

 

Step 14: Starting at the head, draw a long, wavy diagonal line for the back. Use quick, short strokes along the way for the gorilla's fur. The back should dip a bit in the middle. Add a short line that's made up of jagged strokes to the right of the arm for the fur along the belly.

 

Step 15: Draw the leg by first drawing a curved line to the right of the belly. The right edge of the leg should continue where the back left off. Add short strokes at the bottom for the fur. The gorilla's toes are made up of three small, curved lines, and the foot is just a horizontal line at the bottom.

Step 16: Draw the cartoon gorilla's other arm the same way as the first. Start with two long lines. Use quick, short strokes along the bottom for the fur on the wrist. Add a wavy line at the bottom for the knuckles and a U-shaped line on the right for the thumb.

 

Step 17: Use a series of quick, short strokes between the arm and the leg for the gorilla's leg on the other side. Add the toes at the bottom using a few C- shaped lines.

 

Step 18: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon gorilla drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your gorilla drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use brown for the fur. If you'd like, first use dark brown lightly for a base , then use regular brown over it. Use light brown for the rest of the body and pink or red for the gorilla's mouth and tongue.
