To draw a Weasel step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

The Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

 

Step 1: Draw a circle as a guide for the front part of the weasel's body. First make four small marks to indicate the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, trace the outer rim of a coin, a bottle cap or any other object with a circular edge. Step 2: To the right, draw another circle of similar size as a guide for the back of the body. Don't place the circles too close together. Weasels have long bodies, so space out the circles.

 

 

Step 3: Draw another circle on the top, left side as a guide for the weasel's head. Don't place the circle too close to the first circle. This circle should be about half the size of the other ones.

 

Step 4: On the left side of the head, draw a small arc as a guide for the weasel's muzzle.

 

 

Step 5: Under the body circle on the left, draw two angled lines as guides for the front legs. The lines should be short. They should bend in the middle to indicate the joints and at the bottom for the weasel's feet.

Step 6: Draw two more angled lines under the circle on the right as guides for the weasel's hind legs. These lines should be slightly longer, and they should bend more in the middle.

 

Step 7: Draw two curved lines to connect the head to the body and form the guide for the neck. Connect the first two circles using curved lines to finish the guide for the body. On the right side, draw a long, sloping line as a guide for the weasel's tail.

 

 

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

 

Step 8: Inside the head, near the left side, lightly sketch the eye as a small circle. When you get the size and position of the weasel's eye right, darken the lines. Make the sides a bit pointier. Inside the eye, draw a tiny circle to represent glare. Shade in the eye using a dark value. Don't overlap the tiny glare circle as you shade the eye. Draw a series of short strokes around the eye for a bit of fur and detail.

 

 

Step 9: Draw a small, curved line for the nose up against the inner edge of the muzzle. When you get the shape and position right, darken the lines. Curve the line on the right inward to create the nostril. Make the bottom of the weasel's nose pointier and darken the left edge too.

Step 10: Darken the line above the nose to create the top of the muzzle. Under the nose, draw a line that's made up of short strokes to create the weasel's mouth. Add a line under the mouth for the chin. Follow the basic shape of the initial arc as you draw the muzzle.

 

Step 11: Inside the head, on the top, right side, draw a wide, curved line for the weasel's ear. At the bottom of the shape of the ear, draw a series of strokes for the fur. On the lower edge, draw a couple of extra curved lines for the folds on the ear. On the top of the head, draw a short, thin arc for the ear on the other side.

 

 

Step 12: Use the remaining lines and shapes as guides to draw the rest of the head. Simply darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the weasel's head. Curve the line above the nose a bit to emphasize the shape of the muzzle. Make the lines longer for a bit of the neck. Add a series of short strokes along the jaw and above the eye for extra fur.

 

Step 13: Use the second line from the left as a guide to draw the first front leg. Follow the path of the guide and lightly sketch the shape of the leg around it. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the lines. Make the top part of the leg wider than the bottom. Use short strokes for a fur-like texture. The shape of the foot should also be wide. At the tip of the weasel's foot, draw a couple of curved lines for the toes.

 

 

Step 14: Use the line on the left as a guide to draw the other front foot the same way. Follow the basic path of the guide and draw the shape of the leg around it. Make the top of the leg wider and add the toes to the tip of the weasel's foot.

Step 15: Use the angled line to the right as a guide to draw the first hind leg. The top part of the hind leg, right before the joint, is bigger and rounder than the weasel's front leg. Below the joint, the shape of the leg should slope to the left and end at the wide foot and toes at the bottom.

 

Step 16: Use the last angled line under the body as a guide to draw the other hind foot the same way. A big part of this leg will be hidden behind the weasel's body and the other leg, so only draw the parts that are visible from this angle.

 

 

Step 17: Use the remaining lines as guides to draw the rest of the body. Simply darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the body. On the right side, draw the shape of the weasel's tail around the initial sloping line. Use a series of short strokes to represent the bushy fur on the tail.

 

Step 18: For a cleaner look, erase as much as you can of the initial guide lines. Don't worry about erasing all of the guides. It's okay to leave some behind. Re-draw any final sketch lines you may have accidentally erased.

 

 

Final Step: Add some shading to your weasel drawing for extra detail. Use short strokes to draw the line on the body that separates color. Use a dark value for the nose and a medium value for the body, except for the underside. Weasels have a flat, sleek coat, so use smooth strokes as you shade and avoid a rough texture. As you shade, use strokes that go in the general direction of the fur. The strokes along the weasel's body have a general horizontal orientation, while on the feet they're more vertical. Add the value very lightly at first to get comfortable shading. Then gradually make the value darker. Use a darker value to shade the fur on near the tip of the tail. Add some shading to your weasel drawing to give it more dimension and volume. Pick the direction of the light source when shading so that the shadows are consistent with it. Vary the pressure on your pencil to get different degrees of tonal value. Shading can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. You can add more value to the body as you add the shadows too. It's always a good idea to use reference as you draw for a more accurate-looking weasel.

Add a cast shadow underneath. This helps to ground the weasel so it doesn't appear to be floating. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
