To draw this cartoon Penguin step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

 

Step 1: Draw two small ovals for the penguin's eyes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. Inside each eye, draw two tiny circles to represent glare. Shade the eyes but don't overlap the tiny glare circles. Pay attention to the space between the penguin's eyes. Don't draw them too close together.

 

Step 2: Under the eyes, add the beak by first drawing a small, angled line that's similar to a greater-than sign (>). To the left, close off the shape with a small, curved line. Don't make the penguin's beak too big.

 

 

Step 3: High above the eyes, make a small mark to indicate the height of the head. To the right of the face, draw a short, curved, vertical line for the penguin's cheek. Connect the cheek to the mark at the top to form the front part of the head. Add the other side of the head by first making a small mark far off to the left of the face. Connect the shape of the head using a curved line. The head should be dome-like.

 

Step 4: Below the head, draw a long, curved, horizontal line for the top edge of the penguin's scarf. Make a small mark below the long line to indicate the thickness of the scarf. Using the small mark as a guide, draw a line parallel to the top line for the bottom edge of the scarf.

 

 

Step 5: Draw a couple of curved lines around the face to indicate the color separation. The curved lines should create a point right above the middle of the penguin's eyes, like the top of a heart.

Step 6: Below the scarf, on the left side, draw a small rectangle for the end of the wrapped scarf. Add a vertical line to the left for the other end of the penguin's scarf and smaller lines at the bottom for some fringe.

 

Step 7: Below the scarf, on the far left side, draw the flipper as a couple of curved lines that come to a point. The shape of the penguin's flipper should be similar to a curved letter V on its side.

 

 

Step 8: Add the penguin's body by first making a small mark far down below the scarf. Add a curved line on the right side and connect it to the mark for the front part of the body. Close off the shape of the penguin's body by drawing a curved line on the left side, below the flipper.

 

Step 9: Under the body, on the left side, draw a wavy line for the first foot and toes. Draw the penguin's other foot on the right. Because this foot is pointing to the side, make the line longer.

 

 

Step 10: On the right side of the body, draw the penguin's other flipper the same way as the first. Inside the body, near the bottom, draw a curved, horizontal line for the color separation.

Step 11: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your penguin drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your penguin drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use black for the outer portion of the penguin's body. Don't overlap the lines when you color. Use red for the scarf or any other color you like. You can even make it striped! Use yellow-orange for the penguin's beak and feet. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
