To draw this cartoon Kangaroo step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Lightly sketch two small ovals for the cartoon kangaroo's eyes. Don't place the eyes too close together. When you get the position and shapes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw two tiny circles for highlights. Shade the eyes but don't overlap the tiny highlight circles. The eye on the left should be slightly smaller because of the way the head will be turned.

Step 2: Below the eye on the left, draw a small oval on its side for the nose. Inside the nose, near the top, draw a thinner oval for a highlight. Shade the kangaroo's nose but don't overlap the thin highlight oval.

Step 3: To the left of the nose, lightly sketch a curved line for the muzzle and cheek. The line starts near the kangaroo's eye and curves under the nose. Darken the line when you get the shape right. Lightly sketch a line that curves up and to the right, high above the eyes, for the head. Pay attention to how high above the eyes the line is. Darken it when you get the shape right. At the top of the head, draw three short, spike-like shapes for some fur.

Step 4: To the right of the fur, draw a thin, tall arc that's a bit pointy at the top for the first ear. Inside the cute cartoon kangaroo's ear, draw a long line and a couple of spike-like shapes for the structure and fur.

Step 5: To the left, draw a slim arc that's slightly tilted for the other ear. Add a line inside for structure. To the left of the eyes, draw a long line that curves to the left at the bottom for the other side of the kangaroo's head.

Step 6: Draw two long, curved, vertical lines under the head for the chibi kangaroo's body. The lines should be about as long as the head. Sketch lightly at first to get the shapes of the lines right. The line on the left should curve to the right at the bottom. The line on the right shouldn't curve as much. Leave a big gap between the lines on the lower, right side.

Step 7: On the lower, right side of the body, draw a shape that's similar to an oval on its side for the foot. Above that, draw a half-circle for the leg. Add some spikes for fur. Draw short lines on the kangaroo's foot for the toes.

Step 8: On the lower, left side of the kangaroo's body, draw a wide shape for the other foot. Add some lines inside for toes.

Step 9: Inside the body, near the top, draw two small, U-shaped lines for the kangaroo's arms. Tilt the shapes a bit. Add a couple of small lines inside each arm for fingers. Below the arms, draw a horizontal line for the pouch.

Step 10: On the lower, right side of the body, draw a big, triangular shape for the cartoon kangaroo's tail.

Step 11: Go over the lines with a pen or marker to make your chibi kangaroo drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your chibi cartoon kangaroo drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Color everything dark brown except for the inside of the ears and a long section in the middle of the body. Color the inner ears pink and the middle of the kangaroo's body light brown. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
