For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Start by drawing three circles as guides for the wind dragon's body and head. To draw each circle, first make four marks to determine its height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circles, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a bottle cap. For a more detailed guide on the different ways to draw a circle check out this tutorial: Four simple ways to draw a circle. Pay attention the the size and spacing between the circles. The farther apaart you place the circles, the longer the body will be.

Step 2: Connect the circles using a series of lines to create the guide for the dragon's body. The left side of the neck should be wide and the side closer to the head should be thinner. The tail should also be wide at the base and thin and pointy on the left side. On the right side of the head, draw a small arc on its side as a guide for the muzzle.

Step 3: Under the circle in the middle, draw a small angled line as a guide for the dragon's arm. The shape of the arm should be similar to a less-than sign with a curved line at the bottom. Under the circle to the left, draw another angled line as a guide for the hind leg. These lines should be similar to two check marks. On top of the body draw a couple of long lines as guides for the wing. The wings angle to the left side and the line in the middle should slope down toward the tail.

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press down harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

Step 4: Inside the head circle, near the right edge, lightly sketch a small oval for the dragon's eye. When you get the size and position right, darken the shape but make it more angular. Draw a curved line over the eye for the lower edge of the thick brow. Draw a series of small, pointy shapes above the eye for the thick, spiky brow.

Step 5: Draw a curved spike at the tip of the initial arc for the front part of the wind dragon's beak-like muzzle. Angle the line to the left to create the mouth. Draw the mouth farther right than the eye. Darken the top part of the arc for the muzzle and add a small angled line for the nostril. Higher up, draw a few small, spiky shapes for the brow that's on the other side.

Step 6: On the top part of the dragon's head, lightly sketch a couple of curved cone-like shapes for the dragon's horns. Make the bottoms of the horns thick and the tops pointy. Curve the horns to the left and then curve them upward. Place the horns on the edge of the initial circle. You can make the horns as big or as small as you want.

Step 7: Darken the bottom part of the initial arc to create the dragon's lower jaw. Inside the muzzle, near the top, draw a couple of small angled lines for the other nostril. On the left side of the initial circle, draw a small cone-like shape for another horn.

Step 8: Use the angled line under the dragon's body, on the right, as a guide to draw the first arm. Follow the path of the guide and lightly sketch the shape of the arm around it. Use short, curved lines around the guide at the top to emphasize the muscle structure. The forearm should tuck into the top arm a bit. When you get the shape right, darken the lines. Make the bottom part of the shape thinner for the wrist. On the bottom, left side, draw a couple of small, pointy shapes for the fingers that are folded back.

Use the angled line on the left as a guide to draw the dragon's hind leg in a similar way. Lightly sketch the thick shape of the leg around the guide. Make the top part wide and the bottom narrower. The top part of the leg should be similar to a curved letter V. When you get the shape right, darken the lines. The bottom half of the dragon's leg should be tucked behind the top half. Make the bottom half thinner. Curve the shape at the bottom and add a couple of spiky lines on the left for the toes pointing back.

Step 9: Use the long, angled lines on top of the body as guides to draw the dragon's first wing. Darken the lines and add a small, triangular shape where the line bends on the top, right side for a claw. Add an extra line on the bottom to make the base of the wing thicker.

Step 10: Draw a couple of curved lines on the left side to close off the top shape of the wind dragon's wing. Draw a couple more curved lines from the top of the body to the top part of the wing for the lower edge of the wing. Add a few more lines within the shapes for extra detail.

Step 11: Use the initial lines and shapes as guides to draw the rest of the body. Darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the dragon's body. Don't overlap the shape of the wing, arm or leg as you darken the lines. Draw a line along the lower edge of the body for the separation of the scales. Don't overlap the arm and leg.

Step 12: Draw a series of short, vertical lines across the bottom of the body for the individual scales. Don't draw the lines too close together; spread them out. Don't overlap the limbs as you draw the dragon's scales. On the tip of the tail, draw a small, arrow-like shape for a spike. Draw a series of small, triangular shapes along the top edge of the dragon's body for more spikes. Don't overlap the wing as you draw the spikes. Make the spikes smaller the closer they are to the tip of the tail.

Step 13: Under the body, to the right of the arm, draw the bottom part of the other arm. Use the dragon's first arm as a template. Only the hand and digits will be visible. Draw the other leg the same way. Use the first leg as a template to draw the visible portions of the other leg to the right. At the top, draw the other wing in a similar way. Use the first wing as a template to draw the second wing on the right side. A small portion of the second wing will be visible on the lower, left side too.

Step 14: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of a flying dragon.

Final Step: Color your drawing! Dragons are mythical, so you can color your drawing any way you'd like. For this a wind dragon like this one, use different shades of blue all over the body. Color the main part of the body and wings regular blue. Use light blue for the underside of the wings and body. Use dark blue for the spikes and horns and to create shadows. Add some squiggly lines on the underside of the wing for veins and use more dark blue to add a few stripes across the body. Color lightly at first and then slowly add more pressure to your pencil and blend the colors together. Coloring can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
