Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw two short, diagonal lines for the bald eagle's eyebrows. Sketch lightly at first. When you get the shape and angles right, darken the lines. Curve the outer tips of the eyebrows down and the inner tips up.

 

Step 2: Under each eyebrow, draw a curved line for the bottom of the bald eagle's eyes. Inside each eye, add a dot for the pupils.

Step 3: Below the eyes, draw a wavy line for the top edge of the bald eagle's beak. Under the middle, curved section of the line, draw two tiny dots for the nostrils.

 

Step 4: Below the nostrils, draw a V-shaped line for the top part of the bald eagle's open beak. Add a curved, vertical line inside to emphasize the curvature of the beak.

 

 

Step 5: Draw another V-shaped line below for the bottom part of the open beak. Underneath that, draw yet another V-shaped line for the lower edge of the bald eagle's beak.

Step 6: On either side of the bald eagle's face, draw a sloping line for the sides of the head. Now draw a curved, horizontal line above the eyes for the top part of the head.

 

Step 7: For the bottom part of the bald eagle's head, draw a series of small, V-shaped lines.

Step 8: Below the head, draw two curved, vertical lines for the sides of the bald eagle's body.

 

Step 9: Under the bald eagle's body, on the left side, draw two short, vertical parallel lines for the first toe. At the end of the toe, draw two curved lines that come to a point for the sharp talon. Now draw the same thing on the right side for the bald eagle's other toe.

 

 

Step 10: Draw another toe on the left side the same way, but this one should have more of a diagonal orientation. Draw the toe on the right side the same way. These talons should point outward as opposed to inward like the first talons.

Step 11: Draw the third toe on each foot the same way, except with a more horizontal orientation. Add the bald eagle's final toe of each foot at the bottom. The talons on these toes should point down.

 

Step 12: In between the toes, draw a series of curved lines for the visible portion of the upper legs. At the bottom, draw a series of small V-shaped lines for the lower edge of the bald eagle's body.

Step 13: On the left side, draw a long, sloping line that has a little bend in the middle for the first part of the wing. Sketch lightly at first. When you get the shape right, darken the line. The line should start at the bottom of the head. Add a curved line to the tip of the bald eagle's wing to represent a feather. Now draw a similar line on the right side for the top edge of the other wing.

 

Step 14: Below the sloping line on the left, draw a series of short, thin arcs for the lower edge of the bald eagle's wing. These arcs represent feathers. The overall path of the combined feathers should form a wide arc at the bottom. It's ok for the feathers to overlap. The row of feathers should end near the foot.

 

 

Step 15: Draw a series of short arcs on the right side for the lower edge of the other wing. Try to copy the arcs on the left side so that the bald eagle's wings are symmetrical.

Step 16: Below each foot, draw a sloping line for the sides of the bald eagle's tail. Draw a series of small, curved U- shaped lines between the sloping lines for the bottom part of the tail.

Step 17: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your bald eagle drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use brown for the bald eagle's wings and body. Use yellow-orange for the feet and beak, and red for the inside of the mouth. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
