Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw two curved lines next to each other for the cartoon bear's eyes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the lines and make them thick. The shape of the curved lines should be similar to a half-circle. Pay attention to the placement of the curved lines. Don't draw them too far apart.

 

Step 2: Under each curved line, draw a small circle for the irises. The circle on the left should be close to the right tip of the line. The circle on the right should be close to the middle. Add a short, curved line above each eye for the bear's eyebrows.

Step 3: Inside each iris, off to the side, draw a tiny circle to represent glare. In the middle of each iris, draw a big dot for the bear's pupils. As you shade the pupils, don't overlap the tiny glare circles.

 

Step 4: Below the eyes, slightly to the left, draw the cartoon bear's small nose. The shape of the nose is basically a small oval.

 

 

Step 5: Below the nose, draw a wavy line for the mouth. The shape of the mouth should be similar a rounded letter w. Curve the left tip of the mouth up toward the eye to create the rest of the bear's muzzle. Add a couple of short, curved lines under the mouth for the chin.

Step 6: High above the eyes, draw a curved line for the top of the head. As you draw the line, add a couple of jagged strokes to represent the bear's fur. Draw a curved line on the left that's made up of quick, short strokes for the side of the head. Draw another curved line on the right side for the other side of the head. The right side of the head should be a lot farther from the eyes than the left side.

 

Step 7: On the top, right side of the head, draw an arc that's made up of quick, short strokes for the ear. Draw a few more lines within the shape for the fur inside the bear's ear.

Step 8: Draw the bear's ear on the left the same way. Start with an arc that's made up of quick, short strokes. Then add the fur inside using a series of short, jagged lines.

 

Step 9: On the lower, right side of the head, draw two sloping lines for the cartoon bear's arm. At the bottom , draw a U-shaped line for the paw. Inside, draw a couple of lines for the fingers.

 

 

Step 10: To the left of the arm, draw a big oval- like shape for the bear's first foot. Make the oval a bit narrower at the bottom.

Step 11: Inside the foot, near the top, draw three small circles for the padding on the bear's toes. At the bottom , draw a curved shape similar to a bean for the rest of the foot's padding.

 

Step 12: For the cartoon bear's body, draw a long line that starts below the head and curves toward the foot. Add a few jagged strokes along the way for the fur. Draw a curved line to the right of the leg for the back of the body.

Step 13: Draw the other foot using another oval-like shape. Make the bottom part thinner than the top. Don't close off the shape of the foot entirely. Add a line at the top and bottom for the bear's leg.

 

Step 14: Draw the padding on the bear's foot. Three small circles at the top and a curved shape at the bottom.

 

 

Step 15: Draw a curved line on the left side for the bear's other arm. Add a smaller curved line on the lower, right side of the body for the tail.

Step 16: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon bear drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your bear drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use brown to outline the bottom of the eyes, the muzzle and the belly. Then color the body brown. Use light brown for the inside of the ears, the muzzle and the belly. Use peach for the feet's padding. Color the bear's nose black but leave a thin strip blank for shine. For a gradient effect on the eyes, color the top part dark brown and the bottom part light brown.
