Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw a small, curved line for the unicorn's eye. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the line and make it thicker. Add a few spikes along the left side of the line to represent eyelashes. The overall shape of the curved line should be similar to a half-circle.

 

Step 2: Inside the unicorn's eye, draw a small circle for the iris. Draw the iris near the top, left side of the eye.

Step 3: Inside the iris, off to the side, draw a tiny circle to represent glare. In the middle of the iris, draw a big dot for the pupil. Above the unicorn's eye, draw a curved line for the eyebrow.

 

Step 4: To the right of the eye, draw a short, curved line for the first part of the head. Below that, draw a line that curves even more for the unicorn's muzzle. This line should be similar to a backward letter C. On the tip of this line, draw a shorter line as a smile line.

 

 

Step 5: Below the unicorn's eye, draw a long, curved line for the bottom part of the head. Near the top of the muzzle, draw a small circle for the nostril.

Step 6: Above the eye, draw long, curved line for the first part of the unicorn's mane. Add a small spike near the middle of the line for extra detail. The line should curve up on the right side. Draw a shorter curved line above, which is where the horn will peek through the mane.

 

Step 7: On top of the line, draw a triangle-like shape for the unicorn's horn. Draw it longer if you'd like. Add a couple of curved lines for detail. You can also skip this step to draw a regular horse.

Step 8: Behind the horn, draw a wavy line for the top of the mane. Don't overlap the lines for the unicorn's horn. Add a spike-like line on the left side.

 

Step 9: On the top left, side of the unicorn's head, draw a pointy arc with a line inside for the ear.

 

 

Step 10: Draw a long line on the left side and a short line on the right side for the neck.

Step 11: On the left side, draw a long, sloping line for the top part of the front leg. Below that, draw a similar line for the bottom edge of the front leg. At the tip of the lines, draw two shorter lines for the unicorn's hoof.

 

Step 12: Above that, draw the unicorn's other front leg the same way. Don't overlap the lines for the first front leg.

Step 13: Extend the line for the neck on the left side and curve it to create the back. Below the front legs, draw a long curved line for the unicorn's belly.

 

Step 14: Draw a series of wavy lines on the left side of the neck for the rest of the mane. Add a few spikes on the left side for the tips of the unicorn's flowing mane.

 

 

Step 15: Add the hind leg at the bottom by first drawing a vertical line on the left side. On the right side, draw a long, curved line for the top part of the leg. Finish the leg by drawing a vertical line on the right and a couple of lines at the bottom for the unicorn's hoof.

Step 16: On the right side, draw the unicorn's other hind leg the same way but don't add the top part.

Step 17: On the left side of the body, draw a curved line for the top edge of the unicorn's tail. Below that, add a longer curved line for the bottom edge of the tail. On the left side, draw three short, spike-like lines for the tips of the tail.

 

Step 18: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your unicorn drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your unicorn drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! You can color your drawing however you'd like. For this look, use pink on the mane, tail and hooves. For a gradient effect on the unicorn's eyes, color the top part dark blue and the bottom part light blue.
