To draw this cartoon Elephant step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

 

Step 1: Draw two small ovals for the elephant's eyes. Shade in the ovals but leave a couple of circles inside each oval blank to represent glare. Space out the eyes. Don't draw them too close together. If you'd like, you can skip the glare circles and just shade the ovals completely.

 

Step 2: Draw a short, curved line between the eyes for the first part of the elephant's trunk. Now draw a line that slopes to the left like a slide to form the top edge of the trunk.

 

 

Step 3: On the left side, draw a small wavy line for the trunk's tip. Now draw a longer, curved line below for the bottom edge of the elephant's trunk. The tip of the trunk should be thin, while the base should be thick.

 

Step 4: On either side, draw a short, curved line for the elephant's cheeks. The line for the cheek on the right should be far away from the eyes. The line on the left should be close to the eyes.

 

 

Step 5: Add the head by first making a small mark high above the eyes. Now connect the mark to the cheek on the left using a long, curved line. Make the mark a bit longer on the right side and add three short lines at the top of the elephant's head for hair.

Step 6: Draw a long, curved line to the right of the head for the first ear. The shape of the elephant's ear should be similar to a backward letter C that's a bit angled. Draw a small line inside for structure.

 

Step 7: Draw another curved line on the left side for the elephant's other ear. The shape should be the same as the first ear except a bit smaller and flipped.

 

 

Step 8: Below the trunk, draw a line that curves down and to the right for the elephant's chest.

 

Step 9: Add the front foot by drawing two short, vertical lines connected by a curved, horizontal line at the bottom. At the bottom of the foot on the left side, draw three small arcs for the nails.

 

 

Step 10: Draw the second front leg the same way. The left side will be blocked by the first front leg. On the right side, draw a curved, horizontal line for the elephant's belly.

Step 11: To the right of the belly, draw the hind foot using two vertical lines connected by a horizontal line at the bottom. At the left tip of the foot, draw three short arcs for the elephant's nails.

 

Step 12: Draw the small, visible portion of the elephant's other hind leg the same way.

 

 

Step 13: Draw a curved line from the hind leg to the ear to create the back of the body. Draw the elephant's small tail to the right of the body using a few short lines.

 

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon elephant drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your cartoon elephant drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use pink for the inside of the ears. Use gray for the rest of the body except for the nails. Leave them blank. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
