To draw this cartoon Donkey step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

 

Step 1: Lightly sketch two small ovals for the cartoon donkey's eyes. Sketch lightly at first. Darken the lines only when you get the shapes right. Inside each eye, draw two tiny circles to represent glare. Shade the insides of the eyes but don't overlap the tiny glare circles.

 

Step 2: To the left of the eyes, draw a line that curves up for the front part of the head. Below that, draw a smaller, C-shaped line for the cheek. Extend the line toward the right to create the bottom of the donkey's head.

 

 

Step 3: Inside the head, below the eyes, draw a long, curved line for the muzzle. The shape of the donkey's muzzle should be similar to an oval. Inside the shape, draw two dots for the nostrils.

 

Step 4: Above the eyes, draw a shape similar to a small, curved rectangle for the top of the cartoon donkey's mane. Use tiny zigzags for the top edge for a furry texture. Leave the right edge of the shape open.

 

 

Step 5: To the right of the mane, draw a tall, pointy arc for the donkey's first ear. Inside the shape, draw another curved vertical line for the ear's opening.

Step 6: To the left, draw a similar shape for the donkey's other ear. Don't overlap the mane.

 

Step 7: Below the first ear, draw a long, curved, vertical line for the back of the donkey's head. On the right, draw the mane using tiny zigzag lines. Curve the bottom tip toward the right a bit.

 

 

Step 8: To the right of the mane, draw a line that curves downward for the back portion of the body. Under the head, draw a line that curves toward the right for the front part of the cartoon donkey's body.

 

Step 9: To the right, add the donkey's front leg by first drawing two long, curved, vertical lines. Close off the leg at the bottom with a short line. Add another short line near the bottom for the hoof.

 

 

Step 10: To the left, draw a similar shape for the donkey's other front leg.

Step 11: On the right side of the cartoon donkey's body, draw the hind leg the same way. First draw two vertical lines for the sides of the leg. Then draw two short lines at the bottom for the donkey's hoof.

 

Step 12: Draw a line between the legs for the bottom of the body. Draw the donkey's last leg under the body the same way as the other legs.

 

 

Step 13: To the right of the body, draw the donkey's tail using two curved lines. Draw the hair at the end of the tail as a bell-like shape with zigzag lines at the top.

 

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your donkey drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your cartoon donkey drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use gray for the main part of the body. Draw a curved area on the underside of the body and leave it blank for now. Use light gray for the muzzle and the underside of the body and pink for the inside of the ears. Use dark gray for the donkey's mane, the hooves and the tail. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
