To draw this cartoon Pug step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Lightly sketch two small circles for the pug's eyes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. The dog's eyes should be spaced out a bit. When you get the shapes and sizes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw two tiny circles to represent glare or highlights. Shade in the eyes but don't overlap the shapes of the tiny glare circles. Leave a small sliver along the bottom of each eye blank to separate the pupils.

Step 2: Between the eyes, closer to the left side, draw a small oval for the pug's nose. Shade the nose except for a smaller oval at the top that represents highlight.

Step 3: Add the pug's muzzle by first drawing a curved line above the nose. Continue to draw this line around the nose. Curve the bottom part up so that it points toward the nose. The whole shape should be similar to an upside-down heart. Draw a small line under the dog's nose.

Step 4: Draw a small, curved line under the muzzle for the pug's bottom lip. Add a small, curved line over the nose and each eye for a wrinkle and the eyebrows.

Step 5: Draw a short, curved line to the left of the pug's muzzle for the cheek. Draw a longer line that curves high above the eyes for the top of the dog's head. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shapes right. The cheek line should curve at the bottom, toward the muzzle. The top line should stretch above the eye on the right.

Step 6: On the top, right side of the head, draw a long, curved line for the pug's first folded ear. This shape should be similar to a triangle but with the sides and corners more curved. The bottom corner should be close to the eye on the right.

Step 7: On the top, left side of the head, draw another curved line for the dog's other ear. A big part of this ear will be blocked by the head. On the right side, draw a curved line for the pug's other cheek. Start this line under the ear and then curve it to the left toward the muzzle but don't close the shape of the head.

Step 8: To the right of the head, draw a long line that curves downward for the top part of the pug's body. Under the head, draw a long line that curves down and then to the right for the front part of the dog's body.

Step 9: To the right of the chest, draw two curved, vertical lines for pug's the first leg. Close off the shape at the bottom. The bottom should be wider than the top.

Step 10: To the left, draw the pug's other front leg using a couple more long, curved lines.

Step 11: To the right, draw the pug's hind leg the same way. Keep the hind leg the same length as the front leg. At the top, where the leg meets the dog's body, draw an extra curved line for a joint.

Step 12: Draw a line that connects the front and the hind leg to create the underside of the pug's body. Under the body, near the right, draw the other hind leg using a few curved lines.

Step 13: On the top, right side of the body, draw a spiraled line for the pug's curved tail.

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your pug drawing permanent.

Final Step: Color your pug dog drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark brown for the ears and muzzle. Color the rest of the body yellow or light brown. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
