To draw this Bull Terrier Dog step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. The Written step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw a circle near the middle of the paper as a guide for the front part of the bull terrier's body. To draw the circle, first make four small marks to determine its height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a coin or a lid. Step 2: To the left, draw another circle as a guide for the back portion of the dog's body. Draw this circle using the four-marks method as well. This circle should be smaller than the first one. Don't space the circles too far apart, otherwise your bull terrier will be too long.

Step 3: On the top, right side, draw yet another circle as a guide for the bull terrier's head. This circle should be a little over half the size of the first one. Bull terriers have short necks so don't place this circle too high up, otherwise your dog will have a long neck.

Step 4: Draw an arc on the right side of the head as a guide for the bull terrier's muzzle. Notice how big and wide this arc is compared to the head. It also slopes down a bit.

Step 5: On top of the head, draw two small, triangular shapes as guides for the bull terrier's ears. The two triangular shapes combined should look similar to the letter M.

Step 6: Under the first circle, draw two vertical lines as guides for the bull terrier's front legs. Don't make these lines too long. Bend the lines at the bottom to indicate the dog's joints and feet.

Step 7: Under the circle on the left, draw two longer lines as guides for the bull terrier's hind legs. The lines should slope to the left before angling down. They should also bend to the right at the tops.

Step 8: Draw two lines that connect the head to the first circle as a guide for the neck. Connect the first two circles together to complete the dog's body. The shape should be narrower on the left side. To the left, draw a long, curved, vertical line as a guide for the bull terrier's tail.

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

Step 9: Inside the head, on the top, right side, lightly sketch a line similar to a less-than sign (<) for the dog's eye. When you get the placement, size and shape of the eye right, darken the line. To the right, draw a short, curved line for the eyeball. Then add a tiny angled line for the corner of the eye. Inside the eye, draw a tiny dot for the bull terrier's pupil. Add a few short strokes above the eye for fur. Make the lines thicker.

Step 10: On the left side of the arc, near the edge, draw a small, angled line for the tip of the nose. Pay attention to the placement of the bull terrier's nose. To the left, draw a smaller line for the nostril. Add a curved line at the top and a couple of short lines at the bottom to complete the shape of the dog's nose.

Step 11: Under the nose, draw a line that slopes down to the left, then angles up and to the left for the mouth. Follow the basic curvature of the initial arc. Make the left side of the bull terrier's mouth thick and dark.

Step 12: Below the dog's mouth, draw a curved line along the path of the initial arc for the lower jaw. Draw the jaw a bit higher than the initial arc. Darken the top of the arc to complete the muzzle. Follow the path of the arc. The bridge of the bull terrier's nose should slope downward.

Step 13: Use the triangular shape on the left as a guide to draw the bull terrier's first ear. Darken the initial line but extend the bottom farther down toward the dog's head. Inside the shape, on the left, draw a couple of lines for structure. At the bottom, draw a series of short lines for more structure and fur.

Step 14: Darken the guide on the right for the other ear but make the shape wavier. Inside the shape, draw a series of lines to give the ear more structure.

Step 15: Use the initial circle and arc as guides to draw the rest of the bull terrier's head. Darken the outer edges of the initial circle and arc to create the shape of the head. The top of the head should lead into the shape of the dog's muzzle to form a curved, egg-like shape. Near the bottom of the circle, draw a small, curved line to emphasize the jaw.

Step 16: Use the second line from the right as a guide to draw the bull terrier's first front leg. Follow the path of the guide and lightly sketch the shape of the dog's leg around it. Make the top part wide and gradually thinner at the bottom. The foot bends forward at the bottom. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the leg right, darken the lines. Keep the edges of the leg close to the guideline so that the shape isn't too thick. At the bottom, draw a couple of short lines for the dog's toes. At the tip of each toe, draw a small triangular nail.

Step 17: Use the line on the right as a guide to draw the dog's other leg the same way. Lightly sketch the leg around the guide. Darken the lines when you get the shape right. Bend the bottom of the shape forward for the foot. Add the toes using curved lines and the nails using triangular shapes.

Step 18: Use the angled line on the far left as a guide to draw the dog's first hind leg. Draw this leg the same way. Follow the path of the guide and lightly sketch the leg around it. Bend the leg near the middle to indicate the joint. The top part should be very wide. The leg should slope to the left at the top. When you get the shape right, darken the lines. At the bottom, draw a few of curved lines for the bull terrier's toes. Then draw a couple of tiny triangles for the nails.

Step 19: Use the line to the right as a guide to draw the bull terrier's other hind leg the same way. A big part of the top of the leg will be hidden by the first leg, so just draw the bottom visible part.

Step 20: Use the remaining lines and shapes as guides to draw the rest of the bull terrier's body. Simply darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the dog's body. As you darken the lines, don't overlap the legs that are on this side of the body. Extend the line for the left edge of the hind leg upward to finish the back portion of the body. Darken the curved line on the left for the dog's tail. Add another curved line under it to complete the shape.

Step 21: For a cleaner look, erase as much as you can of the initial guide lines. Don't worry about erasing all of the guides. It's okay to leave some behind. Re-draw any final sketch lines you may have accidentally erased.

Final Step: Add some shading to your bull terrier dog drawing to give the figure more dimension and volume. Use a dark value for the inside of the ears and for the nose. Use a lighter value for the rest of the dog's body. Add a couple of rows of dots to the left of the nose for the base of the whiskers. Pick the direction of the light source when shading so that the shadows are consistent with it. Vary the pressure on your pencil to get different degrees of tonal value. Some bull terriers have coat patterns, so you can add dark patches on the body if you don't want a white terrier. It's a good idea to use reference as you draw for a more accurate depiction of a bull terrier. If you have a pet bully or a similar breed, try to duplicate its coat on your drawing. Shading can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks.

Add a cast shadow underneath. This helps to ground the dog so it doesn't appear to be floating. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
