For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw a circle near the top of the page as a guide for the husky puppy's body. First draw four small marks to indicate the height and width of the circle, then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. But the circle doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide. If you do want to draw a perfect circle, trace the outer rim of a cup, a lid or any other object with a circular edge.

 

Step 2: Draw a curved horizontal line that's slightly tilted across the head. This construction line helps to give the head a tilted orientation and will help you place the husky puppy's facial features later. Add a slightly tilted vertical line at the top for another construction line.

Step 3: Draw a small circle on the lower half of the head as a guide for the puppy dog's muzzle. Pay attention to the size of this circle. It should fit between the construction line and the lower edge of the head.

 

Step 4: Draw two triangle-like shapes on the head as guides for the husky puppy's ears. The sides of these shapes should curve more than a triangle.

 

 

Step 5: Draw a circle-like shape under the head as a guide for the top half of the husky's body. First draw a small mark below the the head, then connect the mark to the sides of the head using curved lines.

Step 6: Draw a U-shaped line on the lower left side as a guide for the lower half of the husky puppy's body. Draw this guide like the previous step, only this guide is tilted and the sides are flatter.

 

Step 7: Draw two vertical lines that are slightly tilted under the top half of the puppy's body as guides for the front legs. The guide line on the right should bend at the tip to indicate the foot.

Step 8: Draw an angled line on the lower left side of the body as a guide for the folded hind leg. Add a smaller curved line on the left for the husky puppy's tail.

 

That's it for the initial sketch! From this point on, press harder with your pencil to get a more defined sketch.

 

 

Step 9: Lightly sketch the husky's eyes inside the head as two small circles. Use the construction lines as guides for the placement of the eyes. When you get the placement and size of the eyes right, darken the lines. Make the outline of the eyes darker and thicker. Add a slightly pointy tip on either side of the shape to represent the corners of the eyes. Use jagged lines as you draw the shape around the eyeball to represent fur.

The dark shapes around the puppy dog's eyeballs should be similar to little footballs. Add a series of quick, short strokes around each eye to represent more fur. Inside each eye, off to the side , draw a tiny circle to represent glare. In the middle of each eye, draw a big dot for the pupils. If you'd like, you can shade the eyes, otherwise leave them blank to represent light-colored eyes.

Step 10: Draw the puppy's nose inside the muzzle by first lightly sketching a small oval near the middle. When you get the shape right, add a series of quick, short strokes at the top for the fur. Darken the other sides of the shape but make the bottom pointier. Inside the husky's nose, on either side, draw a curved line for the nostrils. Shade the bottom part of the curved lines to create the inside of the nostrils. Draw a small line at the bottom of the nose.

 

Step 11: Draw a line that starts under the nose and curves left for the first side of the husky puppy's top lip. Add another line that curves to the right for the rest of the top lip. Make each line longer and make them curve up as they follow the basic shape of the initial circle but make the muzzle wider. Use quick, short strokes as you draw the shape of the muzzle to create a fuzzy texture. Follow the lower edge of the initial circle to create the chin.

Step 12: Use the triangle-like shapes on the head as guides to draw the husky puppy's ears. Use quick, short strokes as you follow the path of the guides for a fuzzy texture. Using quick, short strokes, draw a thin, slit-like shape in the middle of the ear for the opening. Add an opening using quick, short strokes to the other ear as well.

 

Step 13: Use the main circle as a guide to draw the rest of the husky puppy's head. Make the sides of the head wider as you follow the basic path of the initial circle. Use quick, short strokes as you create the shape of the head to give it a furry texture.

 

 

Step 14: Use the second line from the right under the body as a guide to draw the husky's first front leg. Use quick, short strokes as you draw the shape of the leg around the guide line. Use a few short lines at the bottom to separate the puppy's toes and nails. The shape of the leg and foot should be short and wide.

Step 15: Use the rightmost line as a guide to draw the other front leg the same way. Make the shape of the leg wider as you draw it around the guide line. Add a couple of curved lines at the bottom to separate the individual toes.

 

Step 16: Use the angled line under the husky puppy's body as a guide to draw the first hind leg. Draw a curved line above the guide to create the top of the foot. Use smaller lines at the tip for the toes. Use a few quick, short strokes on the left side near the tail, for the fur. Using a few curved lines, draw the other hind leg peeking between the body and front foot.

Step 17: Use the remaining lines as guides to draw the rest of the husky puppy's body. Simply darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the body. Use quick, short strokes as you follow the path of the guides to create a furry texture. Add a few quick, short strokes above the hind foot for the furry underside.

 

Step 18: Use quick, short strokes around the curved guide line on the lower left side to create the shape of the husky puppy's tail.

 

 

Step 19: For a cleaner look, erase as much as you can of the initial guide lines. Don't worry about erasing all of the guides. It's okay to leave some behind. Re-draw any final sketch lines you may have accidentally erased.

 

Final Step (optional): Add some shading to your husky puppy drawing to give it more dimension and volume. Pick the direction of the light source when shading so that the shadows are consistent with it. As you add the shadows, separate each individual stroke a bit to emphasize the furry texture.

Add a bit of shading underneath to help ground the dog so it doesn't appear to be floating.

You can add even more value throughout your husky puppy drawing for extra detail. Use a dark value for the nose. Don't shade too smoothly. Use quick, short strokes as you shade to give the fur a fuzzy texture. Draw a thin strip on the forehead between the eyes. Add a small oval-like shape over each eye. These sections will be blank. As you add the value, use strokes that go in the general direction of the fur. On the puppy's head, they should radiate outward. The value on the head should stop about halfway. The lower half should be white. You can actually skip this final step altogether for a white husky.

Add some value to the left side of the puppy dog's body as well. The chest and underside should be white. Adding the value can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. If you have a pet husky or a similar breed, try duplicating its coat on your drawing. If you'd like, you can add a light value to the eyes. Or even some light blue! Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
