Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Draw a small, curved line for the deer's eye. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the line and make it thicker. The overall shape of the curved line should be similar to a half-circle.

 

Step 2: Inside the eye, draw a small circle for the iris. The circle for the iris should be close to the right side of the eye. Above the deer's eye, draw a curved line for the eyebrow.

Step 3: Inside the iris, off to the side, draw a tiny circle to represent glare. In the middle of the iris, draw a big dot for the deer's pupil.

 

Step 4: Draw a line that wraps around the top, left side of the eye for the front of the deer's head. Pay attention to the curvature of the line, along with the distance from the eye.

 

 

Step 5: Below the front of the deer's head, draw an arc-like line for the muzzle. Curve the line on the bottom upward to create a smile.

Step 6: On the tip of the muzzle, shade in a small triangle for the nose. Draw a longer line at the bottom for the rest of the deer's head. Curve the line upward on the right side to create the jaw.

 

Step 7: On the top, right side, draw a big arc with a pointy top for the ear. Inside the shape, draw a small, curved line to give the deer's ear more structure.

Step 8: On top of the head, draw a long, curved line for the first part of the antlers. You can make this line longer or shorter if you want your deer to have bigger or smaller antlers.

 

Step 9: Now draw more thin, curved shapes on the left side for more branches on the deer's antler. You can add more or fewer of these branches if you'd like. It's easier to only draw a few of them.

 

 

Step 10: On the left side, duplicate the shapes for the deer's other antler. Draw the top part first. Use the first antler as a template.

Step 11: Now draw the bottom part of the other antler the same way. Add a bit of the deer's other ear too.

 

Step 12: Under the deer's head, draw a long line for the neck and chest. Curve the bottom of the line a little toward the right.

Step 13: On the right side, draw another long line for the other edge of the neck and the back. Pay attention to how the line curves to the right to form the deer's back.

 

Step 14: Under the deer's chest, draw two long, vertical lines to form the first leg. Bend the lines forward a bit a t the bottom to indicate a joint.

 

 

Step 15: On the left side, draw two short lines that slope to the left for the deer's other front leg. Now draw two more lines that slope to the right for the middle section of the bent leg. Finally, add two short, horizontal lines for the lower section of the leg.

Step 16: To the right of the first leg, draw a curved, horizontal line for the belly. On the top, right side, draw a couple of short, curved lines that come to a point for the deer's tail.

 

Step 17: Add the deer's hind leg by first drawing a curved line under the tail. Now draw a longer, sloping line to the right of the belly. This is the top part of the hind leg. For the bottom section of the leg, draw a thinner, vertical shape below. Bend it a bit at the bottom.

Step 18: Use the first hind leg as a template to draw the deer's other hind leg the same way.

 

Step 19: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your deer drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

 

Final Step: Color your deer drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! For this color scheme, color the body brown but leave the outlined sections blank. Color the antlers and the eye dark brown. Use light brown for the rest of the blank sections, except the deer's hooves. Color the bottom s of the legs black for the hooves.
