Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw a cartoon wolf head.

 

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

Step 1: Lightly sketch a short, sloping line for the cartoon wolf's first eyebrow. To the right, draw another short line that slopes the opposite way for the other eyebrow. Curve the inner tips of the line upward to create a furrowed brow. When you get the shape and position of the lines right, darken them. Give the eyebrows a little thickness and shade them in lightly.

 

Step 2: Under each eyebrow, draw a small half-circle for the eyes. Make the half- circles the same size and place them near the center of the eyebrows. Make the sides of the wolf's eyes thicker and darker.

 

 

Step 3: Inside each eye, draw a smaller half-circle for the pupils. Shade in the wolf's pupils. If you'd like, leave a tiny circle blank to represent glare.

 

Step 4: Above each eye, draw a short, curved line to emphasize the shape of the brow. Add a couple of jagged points along each curved line to represent the wolf's fur. Under the inner corner of each eye, draw a small, curved line for the wrinkles on the face. These lines should look similar to an upside-down letter V.

 

 

Step 5: Directly below the middle of the eyes, make a small mark to start drawing the wolf's nose. Make the mark longer and wavier for the top edge of the nose. Add a V-like line for the bottom edge of the nose and a couple of curved lines inside for the nostrils.

Step 6: Below the nose, draw a long, horizontal line for the first part of the muzzle. Curve the ends of the line upward to create the sides of the wolf's muzzle. The line should curve to just above the nose. Don't curve it too close to the eyes.

 

Step 7: Draw a line between the eyes to emphasize the furrowed brow. Add a couple more curved lines for the wrinkles on the sides of the muzzle. These wrinkles help emphasize the cartoon wolf's snarl/growl.

 

 

Step 8: Under the muzzle, on either side, draw a V-shaped line for the wolf's long canine teeth. You can make these teeth longer or shorter if you'd like but leave room in the middle for more teeth.

 

Step 9: Between the canines, draw a short, horizontal line for the gums. Below the gums, draw a row of small, v-shaped lines for the wolf's front teeth.

 

 

Step 10: Under each canine, draw a short, vertical line for the sides of the mouth. In the middle, draw a curved line with a line in the middle for the wolf's tongue.

Step 11: On either side of the mouth, draw a small, cone- like shape for the lower canine teeth. Between the lower canines, draw a row of smaller cone- like shapes for the rest of the teeth. Under the lower row of teeth, draw a wavy line for the wolf's lower lip.

 

Step 12: Below the wolf's open mouth, draw a line for the chin. On the left side, draw a jagged, sloping line for the side of the furry jaw. On the right side of the open mouth, draw another sloping, jagged line for the other side of the jaw.

 

 

Step 13: Starting on the left side of the jaw, draw a series of V-shaped lines to create the side of the cartoon wolf's face. Curve the jagged lines so that the top part ends above the brows. The top spikes should be smaller than the bottom ones. Pay attention to the space between the side of the head and the muzzle.

 

Step 14: Add the right side of the head the same way. Use a series of jagged lines that curve upward from the jaw. The jagged spikes represent the wolf's fur. Try to make both sides of the head symmetrical.

 

 

Step 15: On the top, left side, draw a big line similar in shape to an upside-down letter V for the wolf's first ear. Inside the ear, draw a long line for structure and smaller jagged lines at the bottom for fur.

Step 16: On the top, right side, add the wolf's other ear the same way. First draw a line similar to an upside-down letter V. Then add a long, vertical line inside for structure and short, angled lines at the bottom for fur.

 

Step 17: Between the ears, draw a curved line that's made up of jagged points for the top part of the head. Draw the top of the head pretty high up so that it looks like the wolf's whole head is tilted downward a bit.

 

 

Step 18: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon wolf drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your cartoon wolf drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use gray to outline the area around the eyes, the ears and half of the face. Then color the top part gray. Add the colors lightly at first and gradually darken them to the level that you like. Add a bit of light blue on top of the gray. The gray should form a strip to the nose. Use black for the wolf's nose and the inside of the mouth. Leave a strip on the nose blank for shine. Color the gums and tongue pink and the eyes yellow. Add a bit of light blue along the bottom of the wolf's head for shadows.
