To draw this cartoon Chipmunk step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

 

Step 1: Draw two small ovals for the chipmunk's eyes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw two tiny circles to represent glare. Shade the eyes but don't overlap the tiny glare circles.

 

Step 2: Between the eyes, near the bottom, draw a tiny triangle for the chipmunk's nose.

 

 

Step 3: Below the nose, draw a wavy that's line similar to the letter W for the mouth. Under the mouth, draw a curved for the chipmunk's front teeth. Add a short line inside the shape to separate the teeth.

 

Step 4: Draw a short, curved line close to the eye on the right side for the chipmunk's cheek. Now continue to draw the same line upward and curve it to the left to create the side of the head.

 

 

Step 5: At the top of the head, draw a series of curved, spiky shapes for a bit of hair. Curve the chipmunk's hair in toward the head. Notice how high above the eyes the hair is.

Step 6: On the left side, at the top, draw a small arc with a short line inside for the first ear. On the right side, draw another arc with a line inside for the chipmunk's other ear.

 

Step 7: On the left side, draw a long, curved line for the other side of the chipmunk's head. Notice how far from the eyes this line is. The lines for the head should almost meet at the bottom.

 

 

Step 8: Below the head, on the left side, draw a long, curved, vertical line for the side of the chipmunk's body. On the right side, draw another long, curved, vertical line for the other side of the body. At the bottom, draw a horizontal line to connect the vertical lines and complete the shape of the body.

 

Step 9: Below the chipmunk's head, draw a small half circle for the top part of the acorn. Below that add a curved line for the bottom of the acorn. At the top, draw a line for the stem.

 

 

Step 10: To the left of the acorn, draw a curved line for the chipmunk's hand. Inside, draw a couple of lines for the fingers.

Step 11: To the right of the acorn, draw another curved line for the chipmunk's other hand. Add the fingers inside.

 

 

Step 12: Under the body, draw a couple of wide, curved lines for the feet. Make the chipmunk's feet wide and flat. Don't set them too close to each other.

 

Step 13: To the left of the body, draw the chipmunk's tail using a series of curved lines. The tail is basically made up of two long, curved, vertical lines with a few short spikes at the top.

 

 

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your chipmunk drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your chipmunk drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark brown to create some stripes. Use brown for the rest of the body except for the lower half of the head and belly. Use yellow for the lower half of the face, the belly and the hands and feet. Color the acorn dark brown at the top and light brown at the bottom. Use pink for the ears and nose. Add a bit of dark brown to the chipmunk's head for extra detail. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
