To draw this cartoon Bear Head step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

Written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

 

 

Step 1: Lightly sketch a small oval for the cartoon grizzly bear's nose. Sketch lightly so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the top part. As you darken the sides, curve them inward to create the nostrils. Make the bottom part of the nose thinner. Draw a short line at the bottom of the bear's nose.

 

Step 2: On top of the bear's nose, draw a diagonal line that goes toward the top, left side for the first eyebrow. The left tip of this line should curve down, and the right tip should curve up. On the right side, draw a similar line, only flip it around.

 

 

Step 3: Under the eyebrow on the left, draw a curved line for the grizzly's first eye. The shape of the eye should be similar to a curved less-than sign (<). Draw a similar line on the right side for the bear's other eye. It's okay if both sides aren't perfectly symmetrical.

 

Step 4: Above each eye, draw a curved line to make the brows thicker. As you draw the lines for the brows, add some jagged points along the way for fur. Don't draw these lines too high up above the bear's eyes or the brows will be too thick.

 

 

Step 5: Below the nose, draw a long, curved, horizontal line for the top part of the cartoon bear's open mouth. Remember to sketch lightly at first and only darken the line when you get the shape right. Draw a curved line from the left side of the mouth to the top of the nose for the first part of the muzzle. Draw another curved line on the right side for the other side of the muzzle. Try to make both sides similar to each other, but it's okay if they're not exactly the same.

Step 6: Under the mouth, on either end, draw a long V shape for the bear's big canine teeth.

 

Step 7: Next to each canine tooth, draw a smaller diamond shape for two more teeth. Between the teeth, draw a small curved line for the bear's gums. Draw a series of small V shapes under the gums for more teeth.

 

 

Step 8: Under the grizzly's muzzle, on the sides, draw two long, vertical lines for the sides of the open mouth. Make these lines long for a big open mouth. Close off the shape at the bottom with a short, horizontal line. Within the shape, draw a set of lines parallel to the first set of lines for the inner edge of the bear's mouth.

 

Step 9: At the bottom of the bear's open mouth, draw a series of triangular shapes for more teeth. Make the teeth on the sides, the canines, longer than the ones in the middle.

 

 

Step 10: Inside the mouth, draw the tongue using a couple of curved lines. The top of the bear's tongue is made up of two short hills. The bottom is a big U shape.

Step 11: Below the mouth, draw a curved line for the bear's chin. Add some jagged points along the way for the fur.

 

Step 12: On the left side, draw a long, curved line that's made up of shorter jagged lines for the head. Bears have big heads, so draw this line far away from the face for a really big head.

 

 

Step 13: On the right side, draw a similar line for the other side of the grizzly's head. The jagged lines don't have to look exactly like the left side, but try to make the width of the head the same on each side. The top part of the bear's head should taper inward a bit.

 

Step 14: At the top, close to the brows, draw a wavy line for the top of the bear's head. Notice how the middle part of the head dips down a bit.

 

 

Step 15: On the top, left side of the head, draw a small arc for the bear's ear. Inside add a small line for structure.

Step 16: Draw a similar line on the top, right side for the bear's other ear. Make the arcs a bit jagged for the fur.

 

 

Step 17: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your cartoon grizzly bear drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your bear drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use black for the nose. Use brown for the head except for the inside of the ears and everything inside the muzzle. Use light brown with a bit of yellow for the inside of the ears and the muzzle. Use brown and red for the inside of the grizzly's mouth, brown and pink for the tongue, pink for the gums and yellow for the teeth. If you'd like, you can add some shadows using dark brown. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
