Below you can watch a Narrated step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Lightly sketch two small ovals for the dachshund's eyes. Pay attention to the distance between the eyes. Don't place them too close together. When you get the position and shapes of the eyes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw a couple of tiny circles for highlights. Shade the cartoon dog's eyes but don't overlap the tiny highlight circles. The eye on the left should be slightly smaller because of the way the head will be turned.

Step 2: Below the eye on the left, draw another small oval for the dog's nose. The oval for the nose should be similar to the ovals for the eyes, but it should be turned on its side. Inside the nose, near the top, draw a thinner oval for a highlight. Shade the dachshund's nose but don't overlap the thin highlight oval.

Step 3: To the left of the dachshund's nose, draw a curved line for the side of the head. This line should be similar to the letter c but the bottom part should stretch far off to the right. Don't draw this line too far down below the nose.

Step 4: High above the dachshund's eyes, draw a long, curved line for the top part of the head. Pay attention to how high above the head this line is. The left side of the line should be very close to the eye on the left.

Step 5: On the right side of the dog's head, draw the ear using a series of curved lines. Start with a short line at the top. On the right side, draw a longer line that curves down. At the bottom, draw a U-shaped line that curves back up to complete the shape.

Step 6: On the left side of the dachshund's head, draw the other ear using more curved lines. Draw a couple of curved lines at the top for the ear fold and a wavy line on the left for the side of the ear.

Step 7: Under the dachshund's head, draw a wavy line for the front part of the body. Dachshunds are short, so don't draw this line too low. To the left of the line, draw the first front leg. The leg is made up of two vertical lines on the sides and a horizontal line at the bottom. Don't draw the leg too long because dachshunds have short legs.

Step 8: To the left of the dog's front leg, draw a short, angled line for the visible portion of the other front leg. To the left of the first front leg, draw a long line that curves upward on the right for the underside of the body. You can make this line longer for a longer body.

Step 9: To the right of the dachshund's body, draw the first hind leg using a few curved lines. First draw a big, sloping, curved line for the top of the leg. Draw the bottom of the leg and foot so that it's similar to the front legs. Curve the right side of the leg upward.

Step 10: Draw a long line from the hind leg to the right side of the head for the rest of the dachshund's body. Pay attention to how this line curved up and to the left and then ends at the ear. To the right of the hind leg, draw the other hind leg. Most of the second hind leg will be hidden below the body, so only draw the bottom part.

Step 11: On the top, right side of the body, draw a short, curved, triangular shape for the dachshund's tail. Make the bottom of the tail thick and the tip thin and pointy.

Step 12: Go over the lines with a pen or marker to make your dachshund drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your cartoon dachshund dog drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark brown to create a couple of spots above the eyes. Using dark brown, draw a wavy line across the muzzle for the coat pattern. Use dark brown to create more of the coat pattern across the body and legs. Color the top part of the body dark brown. Use light brown for the spots over the eyes, the muzzle, the underside of the body and the feet.
