Step 6: Use the initial circle as a guide to draw the rest of the baby duck's head. Darken the outer edges of the circle using a series of short strokes to create the fluffy down feathers on the head. Don't connect the bottom part of the circle to indicate the where the neck meets the head. Add a few strokes inside the head for a feathery texture.
Step 7: Draw a curved shape inside the body circle for the duckling's wing. Use a series of short strokes to create a feathery texture. Under the body, draw the shape of the leg and foot around the guide line. At the bottom draw a couple of thin pointy shapes for the foot. Curve the lines at the tip to create the webbed toes. The third toe will be hidden behind the middle toe from this angle.
Step 8: Use the remaining shapes and lines as guides to draw the rest of the baby duckling's body. Simply darken the outer edges of the guides to create the shape of the body. Use a series of short strokes along the path of the guides for a feathery texture. Under the body, draw the other leg. Make the tip of the foot pointy for the toes. Draw a few curved lines at the tip for the webbing between the toes.
Step 9: Go over the final lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. Don't ink the initial guide lines, only the final drawing. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of a baby duck.
Final Step: Now color your duckling drawing! Use yellow to cover the body. Add a bit of orange and light brown to create shadows and give the figure more dimension and volume. As you color, use strokes that go in the general direction of the feathers. Add the colors lightly at first and gradually blend them together as you color darker and push down harder on your pencils. Use pink to color the bill and orange and yellow to color the feet. Color the eye brown but don't overlap the tiny highlight circle as you color. Add a shadow under the body using gray and a bit of blue. Coloring can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. It's a good idea to use reference as you color for a more accurate depiction of a baby duck.
