Step 7: Darken the top and bottom guides to create the shape of the eel's head. Inside the big circle on the left, near the left edge, draw a small oval for the gill. Draw a series of lines inside the shape for texture on the skin.

Step 8: Draw a long curved line on top of the body for the moray eel's top fin. Pay attention to how high this line is above the body. Make the line wavy and curve it along the path of the top edge of the body. At the bottom, continue to draw the gill on top of the tail but draw it closer to the edge.

Step 9: Draw the green moray eel's bottom fin along the lower edge of the tail using a long curved line. The top part of this shape should be thin and pointy and it should be inside the shape of the tail. Follow the lower edge of the guide to draw the rest of the fin.

Step 10: Use the remaining lines and shapes in the middle to draw the rest of the moray's body. Darken the outer edges of the guides to create the shape of the body. Break up the line to indicate where the fins connect to the body.

Step 11: For a cleaner look, erase as much as you can of the initial guide lines. Don't worry about erasing all of the guides. It's okay to leave some behind. Re-draw any final sketch lines you may have accidentally erased.

Final Step: Shade your eel drawing for extra detail. Shade lightly at first and gradually build up to darker values. For light values, push down very lightly on your pencil and push down harder for darker values. Use a medium value throughout the body and a slightly darker value for the fins. Add an even darker value all over the body to create shadows. Don't worry about shading too smoothly, a rough value will give the skin texture. Add a few lines on the fins and inside the body for more texture. It's a good idea to use reference as you shade for a more accurate depiction of a green moray eel. Shading can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. For a more detailed guide on how to shade, check out this tutorial: How to shade.
