To draw this cartoon T. Rex head step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.
Before starting, gather these basic drawing supplies:
- Pencil (an HB lead pencil is best for light sketches)
- Eraser
- Black ink pen or marker
- Drawing paper
- Colored pencils or markers
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw a short, curved line similar to a check mark as a guide for the T. rex's eyebrow. Curve the bottom tip up and the top tip down to furrow the dinosaur's brow.

Step 2: Under the eyebrow, draw an angled line similar to a greater-than sign (>) for the eye. Don't make the T. rex's eye too big. Add a small line under it for detail.

Step 3: Draw a curved line above the dinosaur's eye to emphasize the big brow. Extend the line toward the right side of the eye and make it a bit wavy.

Step 4: To the left of the eye, draw a long, curved line for the top part of the Tyrannosaurus rex's muzzle. Sketch lightly at first. When you get the shape right, darken the line. The line should dip down close to the eye and then curve up slightly before curving back down.

Step 5: Draw a short, curved line on top of the muzzle for the brow on the other side of the dinosaur's head. Inside the muzzle on the left side, draw a small line for the nostril. Draw a longer line to the right for the muzzle's ridge.

Step 6: Below all of this, draw a long, sloping, wavy line for the top part of the open mouth. Remember to sketch lightly at first and only darken the line when you get the shape right. The line should stretch to the right all the way past the T. rex's eye.

Step 7: Draw a series of V-shaped lines under the mouth for teeth. The Tyrannosaurus rex's teeth don't all have to be the same size. Try making them different sizes. Stop adding teeth before you get to the end of the line.

Step 8: Starting on the right side of the mouth, draw a line that slopes to the lower, left side for the bottom jaw. Make the line wavy. At the bottom, draw a short line for the front part of the T. rex's lower jaw. Draw a line that curves back up for the bottom edge of the lower jaw.

Step 9: On the right side of the open mouth, draw a curved, vertical line for the skin that connects the T. rex's jaws. Draw a series of triangular shapes along the lower edge of the open mouth for the rest of the dinosaur's teeth.

Step 10: At the top, below the teeth, draw a curved line for the other side of the Tyrannosaurus rex's mouth. Don't overlap the teeth as you draw this line. Draw a series of V-shaped lines along the bottom path of this line for more teeth.

Step 11: Draw a sloping line that connects to the front of the bottom jaw to finish the open mouth. Make the line wavy and make the inside of the dinosaur's mouth wide. Draw a few more triangular shapes along the edge for the last batch of teeth.

Step 12: Inside the T. rex's mouth, draw the tongue using two curved lines. Don't overlap the teeth.

Step 13: To the right of the eye, draw a curved line for the head and a shorter line for a bit of the neck. At the bottom, draw a long, curved line for the T. rex's muscular lower jaw. To the right, draw a couple of short lines for the neck.

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your Tyrannosaurus rex drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your Tyrannosaurus rex drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use green for the top part of the head. Add the color lightly at first and slowly build it up. You can also color you r dinosaur drawing differently if you'd like. Use yellow or light brown for the lower jaw and bottom of the neck. Use light brown for the skin that connects the jaws and dark brown for the inside of the T. rex's mouth. Use brown and pink for the tongue and yellow for the teeth and eye. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
