To draw a baby Bunny step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

The step-by-step video tutorial:

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Start with Simple Lines and Shapes

How to Draw a Cute Baby Bunny Rabbit 1

Step 1: Draw a circle on the right side of the paper as a guide for the baby bunny's head. First make four small marks to indicate the circle's height and width.

DRAWING TIP: To draw a circle, first make four small marks for the height and width of the circle, and then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. But the circles don't have to be perfect. They're just guides.

Step 2: On the right side of the head, draw a long, curved line as a guide for the muzzle. Draw a sloping line across the whole head. This construction line will help you place the baby bunny's facial features later.

Step 3: On top of the head, near the left side, draw tall, thin arc as a guide for the first ear. Pay attention to the size of this arc in relation to the rest of the head. To the right, draw a curved line for the baby bunny's other ear.

Step 4: On the bottom, right side, draw another circle as a guide for the baby bunny's body. Use four marks to determine the circle's height and width, and then connect the marks using curved lines. This circle should be a bit bigger than the circle for the head. The edges of the circles should touch. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.

Step 5: Draw two lines that connect the head to the big circle to finish the guide for the body. The line at the bottom should be longer and curvier to form the bunny's chest area.

Step 6: Under the front part of the body, draw an L-shaped line as a guide for the baby bunny's front leg.

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

Now Add the Details

Step 7: Lightly sketch the baby bunny's eye inside the head as a small circle. Place the circle on top of the construction line, near the middle. When you get the size and placement right, darken the eye. Draw a couple of curved lines around the eye for extra detail.

Step 8: Inside the eye, off to the side, draw a tiny circle to represent glare. In the middle of the eye, draw a slightly bigger circle for the pupil. Shade the pupil using a dark value. Now shade the rest of the eye using a medium value. As you shade the bunny's eye, don't overlap the small glare circle.

You can also use a dark value at the top and gradually make it lighter toward the bottom to give the eye a rounder look. If you'd like, you can also add another glare circle to make the baby bunny's eye even shinier. As you add the value to the eye, be careful to not shade outside of it.

Step 9: At the tip of the head, on the right side, draw a small, slit-like line for the nostril. Add a short, curved line on the right side, along the guide line for the rest of the bunny's nose.

Step 10: Under the nose, draw a line that curves to the left for the first part of the mouth. Below that, draw another line that curves to the left for the chin. Use a series of tiny, short strokes to draw these lines for a fur-like texture. Draw a circular shape that's made up of short strokes from the mouth to the nose for the rest of the baby bunny's muzzle. Under the nose, on the right, draw another curved line for the other side of the mouth.

Step 11: Use the tall arc on the top, left side of the head as a guide to draw the baby bunny's first ear. Use short strokes as you darken the path of the arc for a fur-like texture. Extend the lines for the bottom part of the ear in toward the head. Inside the ear, add more short strokes as the furry edge of the ear's opening. These strokes should follow the basic path of the ear too, but the shape should be pointy at the bottom.

Step 12: Use the curved line next to the ear and the initial circle as guides to finish drawing the head. Draw short strokes along the path of the guide to create the other ear. Follow the basic path of the initial circle and draw a series of short strokes along the edge. Connect the line for the top of the head to the muzzle to make the shape of the head a bit longer. Add some strokes along the bottom edge of the circle too. Don't close off the shape at the bottom to convey where the head connects to the body.

Step 13: Use the angled line under the body as a guide to draw the foot. Follow the basic path of the guide and draw the thick shape of the baby bunny's foot around it. Draw a couple of short, curved lines at the tip of the foot to separate the toes.

Stay Patient and Keep Drawing - You're Almost There!

Step 14: Use the first foot as a template to draw the other front foot on the right side. Only the front part of the bunny's foot will be visible. Don't forget to add the toes at the tip.

Step 15: Use the remaining lines and shapes as guides to draw the rest of the baby bunny's body. Simply darken the outer edges of the guides to create the shape of the body. Use a series of short strokes along the path of the guides to create a furry texture. Draw the strokes across the top of the feet to represent the fur covering the bunny's feet. Make the strokes along the bottom of the body a bit longer. The longer you make these strokes, the shaggier the bunny's fur will appear.

Step 16: Under the body, near the middle, draw a long, horizontal line that curves on the right for the hind foot. Because the bunny is sitting, the tail will not be visible. Add a curved line at the tip of the foot for the toes.

Step 17: For a cleaner look, erase as much as you can of the initial guide lines. Don't worry about erasing all of the guides. It's okay to leave some behind. Re-draw any final sketch lines you may have accidentally erased.

Now It's Time to Shade

How to Draw a Cute Baby Bunny Rabbit

Final Step: Add some shading to your baby bunny drawing to give it more dimension and volume. Pick the direction of the light source when shading so that the shadows are consistent with it. Vary the pressure on your pencil to get different degrees of tonal value. For a more detailed guide on how to shade, check out this tutorial: How to shade.

Use a smooth value for the inside of the ear and short strokes for the shadows on the fur. The value near the inside of the ear should also be darker because the shadow there would be darker. You can actually stop here for an all-white bunny. For a gray bunny, continue on to the next steps.

Add a cast shadow underneath. This helps to ground the bunny so it doesn't appear to be floating.

Add even more value throughout the baby bunny's body for extra detail. In general, wild rabbits have brownish-gray coats, so use a medium value throughout the body. Make the muzzle a bit darker. If you make the value for the body darker than the shadows, make the shadows darker. As you add the value, use strokes that go in the general direction of the fur. Leave a few areas blank for white fur, like the edge of the ears, around the eye and the bottom of the head and neck.

Separate each individual stroke a bit so that the white of the paper comes through and creates a more fur-like texture. Domestic rabbits can have a variety of different coats, so you can shade your drawing with a different pattern. If you have a pet bunny, try to duplicate its coat pattern on your drawing. Shading can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
